View Full Version : intresting Hammer read
hehe just dug up a pretty technical read on amd's hammer take a look and tell us what u think
http://www.chip-architect.com/news/2001_10_02_Hammer_microarchitecture.html
looks like AMD is taking a real approach to some screaming fast systems.I feel like my dual system os already in need of replacement after that read LMAO......
still going to be a long time b4 anything like that comes out but just think of how fast its going to be... also it looks like they are going to do something about the memory bandwidth

i think thats only with the x86-64 tecnoldegy(lol bad spelling) not the general cpu
I believe Intel is planning on adding x86-64 functionallity to the p4. If the technology takes off, they will simply activate it. From what I'm reading about the 'Hammer,' the p4 won't even be comparable.

Yea, I know, but Intel will be the 1 following after AMD, that sounds pretty kewl... Intel's the follower

It's days like this when I realize that I have no idea what's happening inside my computer. I'm glad that it's as simple as it is, otherwise I'd be lost when somebody asked me the best way to optimize the pipeline or how to impliment a more accurate branch prediction algorithm.
BTW, that reminds me of a CPU mod I saw over at Anandatech. It involves a needle, a microscope and a soldering gun.
