Thanks for the fast reply heh
I'm not sure if I'm going to have enough money to get a Radeon 7500 or equivalent ($290) .... and the Hercules 3d Prophet 2 Ti is only $200 Canadian. Would it still be worth it to get the cheaper one.. I mean.. does it still perform?

if you are thinking of the gf2 ti200, then the radeon is better, but get the gf3 ti200, and thatd kick the hell out of the radeon

I think he's talking US.
If you really wanna go on the cheap, get a 64MB Kyro2. I've got one in my secondary box and I'm really impressed with it's performance. Just last night I was playing AVP2 at 1024x768x32bpp w/ 2x Anti-Aliasing on and there was very little slowdown.. quite playable. I think you can pick them up for around 70 bux US. (112 CAD)
If you are definately gonna get one of those two, i'd get the GF2Ti, but that's mostly because of my hatred for ATI due to their terrible support. :)
Rave:
Cisco Kid bought his online for 102 USD + shipping. Canadian retailer stores like Futureshop advertises them for alot of cash.

I only see a 7500 for $299 canadian.
I think the 7500 are in a price drop transition. Most place in canada has them for 200-225 retial. Some still 290. try www.compusmart.com they have retail store too. I think I saw them at staples for 200

Being an avid nVidia user my reply is out of the norm for me, but I'd actually recomend the Radeon.
Why?
Radeon 7500 supports DirectX 8
GeForce2 Ti only Supports DirectX 7
Alot of the newer games are starting to support DX8 and trust me you will see a perfomance difference when playing DX8 games using a GeForce2Ti. I used to have a GeForce 2 Ultra and some of the newest games played, but only at low settings would i get a decent frame rate.
My recomendation, wait for another price drop for the Radeon or save up for a GeForce3Ti 200.
IMO, of course

ebay prices are usually pretty low...I got my 7500 for $140 american...if u don't mind spending a little extra for shipping u should be fine...but they also have some 7500 cards in canadian prices on ebay.

I'm not sure if I'd feel safe ordering a 200-300 dollar video card that *may* be damaged over Ebay.

usually its safe...you just have to see who you're getting it from.
look at their rating among people who bought from them...if there are alot of complaints look for someone else that seems legit. Just remember that they say RETAIL...if they dont say if its OEM or RETAIL its probably OEM.
OH. and dont forget to see if they say "brand new" and "unopened".

In short, no.
You can still play DX8 games, but alot of the DX8 specific instructions are then handled in software ie. you're CPU, NOT your GPU. I got a P4 1.3ghz. used to have a GeForce 2 Ultra and it stank trying to play games like ghost recon, that use DX8 (lucky if I got 30fps) were as the GF3Ti200 i have now ripps along at 60-70fps on the same display settings.
Open GL performance remained largley the same for my system getting around the same framerates with the GF3Ti200 and GF2Ultra. (note that the GF2U was OCed to 280/480)
All of this I can prove with benchs and I'm sure others may have noticed this too.
Side note: Before installing my ASUS V8200T2 Deluxe I tried something out with my GF2 ultra. This is what I did. OCed Ultra to 280/480 (i ran this stable for months) Dropped all the settings as low as they would go in 3DMark2001 got around 4800 marks.
Installed GF3Ti200 default speeds, default test settings 5309marks not bad. can't wait to OC the new card :D

I might as well add one more store to the list of cheap ones in vancouver.
www.atic.ca they are usually a few dollars cheaper than www.a-power.com but not always.
also I have found a-power uaually has the parts in stock, whereas atic might be sold out, even if they have it on web site.
the powercolor Radeon 7500, 64MB DDR AGP4x, TV-O $170
Ati Radeon 7500 VE 64MB DDR AGP4x, DVi/DB15 Dual display, Video-out (OEM/retail) $245/290
