I have
Intel Q9550 CPU.
Asus P5Q-E Motherboard and
Kingstone HyperX DDR2 1066 RAM.

I used to overclock using Asus EPU software. But now I want to manually overclock using BIOS. When I get into BIOS there are lots of options to set.
I am not sure what to change. Any article or info would really help.

Also my ram runs at 800Mhz only, how should i run it at 1066MHz.

Thanks.

I have a p5q-e :D, im not actually at my pc but anyways...

go into the bios
Goto voltage and frequecy controls (i think, i might be getting mixed up with my shuttle)

Thanks guys,
But is there any doc or link where i will be able to get all basics cleared. I mean all these options in BIOS are too overwhelming for me, not very clear about what happens when some options are set manually and their dependency with each other. So want to make basics clear so that i can safely overclock :).

First I am thinking of making my RAM run at 1066Mhz.
Its support 1066Mhz at 2.2v (as per spec doc). So setting DRAM freq option in BIOS to 1066Mhz will do or I need to set DRAM voltage to 2.2v also or either any one setting will work.

Thanks.

Ask me which stuff!! manual means you can change stuff thats usually unchangeable.

These are the only options you need to change at your level

AI Overclock tuner
FSB Frequency
DRAM Frequency
DRAM Voltage
CPU Voltage

To change the ram to 1066:

AI Overclock tuner: MANUAL (changed from auto)
DRAM Voltage: AUTO (change this to 2.2)
DRAM Frequency: AUTO (change this to the one closest to 1066)

After doing some research I was able to overclock my Q9550 (2.83GHz) to 3.06Ghz.
Settings I did in BIOS are
FSB Frequency - 360MHz
DRAM Frequency - 957MHz
DRAM Voltage : 2.1v
Rest all was set to AUTO. (CPU voltage was set to AUTO)
are these safe settings?? I was able to run RealTemp XSensor test (which is prime95 test) without any problem.
Also CPU temp reached to 63C when running SETI. I have Sunbeam 120mm CCF cooler. Is temp ok or too high??
I want to run my CPU @ 3.2GHz (Safe & Stable). What else i need to change?

Well done :D, You rarely ever get 100% cpu usage so 63 is fine, but you might need to consider getting a thermalright ultra extreme or an ifx 14 just to keep it at 45 at 100%

Put the vcore at 1.25 and keep your settings and try to boot, if it boots, raise the fsb some more, then test the temp, keep it below 70 at 100%, when you get it to 3.2, lower the voltage until it fails to boot, then remeber the setting it was when it booted the lowest and set the voltage as that. if it doesnt reach 3.2 at 1.25 volts raise the voltage to 1.3

These are my settings for 3.8Ghz - Goal is 4.0Ghz with DRAM at least above 1000Mhz 6-6-6-18
Mys system is C2Q 9550 Yorkfield - Mobo Asus P5Q - DRAM Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066Mhz

Ai Overclock Tuner : Manual
