About a week ago, 1st sig rig froze and I heard screeching thru the speakers. Cleaned the comp, reapplied TIM to vid card, etc.
I think it might be the 'screech of death' that happens with SB audigy and Windows XP. Tried all of the suggested solutions (different PCI slot, uninstall/reinstall, etc.). No go. Comp was rock stable until then.
Anyway, looking for a cheap 7.1 replacement. Anybody like the Diamond Xtreme http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CFSL4A/ref=asc_df_B000CFSL4A929352?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=googlecom09c9-20&linkCode=asn&creative=380341&creativeASIN=B000CFSL4A?

why not go for a new, cheaper creative card. I had the xtreme a while back and could never get the dang thing to work.:bang head

I believe the onboard only supports up to 5.1 but I'll check on that again.
And I should have clarified-my SC is the Audigy 2 ZS.

Xonar D1, affordable, high quality sound. Uses CMI chip. No hardware EAX. EAX emulation is available. Inferior gaming performance, spacialization to above.
Those are the only two cards newegg has that I'd consider. Both are great choices. If you want to overpay

Fatality PCIX
Uses inferior circuitry and caps to the Auzen card but the same chipset. Result= inferior quality audio.
All of the above cards, AFAIK, are 7.1 capable.
I MASSIVELY wholeheartedly recommend the Prelude. It is an absolutely exceptional audio card.
