View Full Version : 80mm fan and SK6
I know I've heard about this being done on here, but no one has ever supplied a picture.
Well, here's one.

Robbie,
Nice picture. It looks a little unstable but I hope it works for you. What's the difference to temps, assuming noise is less?
I have a few questions though, hoping you can answer:
1) Is there anything sitting between the HS and the fan, keeping the fan a little raised, or do you simply use the HS sides to do this?
2) Have you thought about cutting little grooves into the fan plastic to act as "hooking points" for the wire holders (just for stability)
I'm currently waiting for my SK-6, which should arrive end of week. I bought it with a YS-Tech 60mm 26 (or 23) CFM fan. On the other hand, I will have two spare 80mm YS-Tech fans (replacing with Panaflos) so was entertaining the same idea as your picture shows.
Cheers,

Hes using some kind of string/wire to hold to corners of the fan down (If that thing falls off you are so screwed!) :D And for your fan you might wanna consider a Delta 38 or Delta 50 because those small fans won't keep up with an SK6.
Nice picuture looks interesting i have the same heatsink but im using a Delta 44CFM Fan its spins at 7000 rpms and its a little loud but it works great.

The problem with using an 80MM fan on a heatsink designed for a 60MM fan is that the 80MM fan typically has a larger dead spot in the middle and has to move more air to achieve the same cooling effect (unless somehow you can eliminate the dead spot factor).
So to get the same results as the Delta 38 or the YS Tech 40 you'd need the Delta 68.5 CFM 80MM or a faster fan probably.
Well guys, temps ONLY went UP a couple of degrees. As far as the grooves go, there were some already on the fan, and there is some tention on them so I highly doubt that they will pop off. It's SOOO much more quiter and I can leave it on at night now. I don't have anything inbetween the HS and fan. I usually put something but this time I didn't..
I just used the wire that came with the SK6. It was cool they give ya two different types. One long set and one short set. Works Freaking good.
Hope this helps

DONT get a 50cfm Delta 60mm. It is the absolute loudest thing ever! It sounds EXACTLY like a vacum cleaner . it is that loud.
just wondering,,,
isn't it just better solution to get yourself a larger heatsink ?
Trying to cool down that little 60mm sized heatsink vs. cooling down larger heatsink ?
Hmm I say it is better off cooling 80mm heatsink,,, heck go with 92mm fan if you want.
But instead of working hard to make adpatersa and stuff...
why not make something simple.. like air duct..
I currently use Alpha 6035 heatsink and all i did was using the fan on heatsink which suck air off ,,, i duct it straightly out of the case... and have 80mm fan at back of case blow to lower part of the heatsink. i have 26cfm ystech fan on heatsink and sunnon 80m @ back. it cools down so well and low noise.
i dont want hot/warm air from heatsink to spread or blow to my card or ram.
