Hi,
I am trying to find out where to get "silicone based thermal paste" as per (http://www.vr-zone.com/guides/AMD/AthlonXPUnlock/) instructions.

Is this just any generic thermal grease? Or is paste a bit different from grease?

I have the "CircuitWorks Silver Conductive Grease" on the way.

I did start to think that the ASII might work instead of the circuit works stuff but I guess its too late now :)

Thanks,
Rich

The stuff at Radio Shack is based on silicon and zinc. That might do the trick. It's really cheap, too.

I guess my question is, from the above link (to VR-Zone) the "Silicone Based Thermal Paste" is that the same as a silicone based thermal grease?

No one in my area (or the web) seems to carry thermal "paste"

From reading the instructions, it looks like it's talking about non-conductive silicone thermal material. The el-cheapo Radio Shack stuff should work just fine. All you're looking to do is fill the grooves with a non-conductive material so you can build a conductive bridge over the top. Silicone-zinc thermal grease/paste is just a convenient material most overclockers are likely to have readily available. I'm sure you could use silicone window caulk as long as you could be sure to get it just in the grooves and not over the L1 bridge contacts.

Yes it is thermal grease. I unlocked using the vr-zone method, the best way ever. Just fill the slits with the grease, and wipe off the excess with a tissue. Then connect the dots with the silver grease. I got the silicone grease at radio shack.
