Hey all,
I just got a 80mm Delta 80CFM fan from 2cooltek today. I was using it to replace my 80mm 5krpm fan that came with the Volcano 7 I got.
The new fan is really loud. Really really loud. :)
My CPU temps dropped about 2-3 C & I am wondering if the noise is worth the temp drop.
The specs on the fans are:
39 dB at 5000 rpm (Volc 7 fan)
52.5 dBA at 8000RPM (Delta fan)
It seems quite a bit noiser to me.
I am starting to think that for the money I have spent on coolers that I should have gone with a watercooling setup.
Any thoughts, is the nosie with 3c?
Thanks,
Rich
Oh, my temps are:
5k fan
49 Idle
53 Load
8k fan
46 idle
50 load
Yes water is the way to go! Much quieter because you are using big slow turning fans rather then small fast ones. Also water can deal with heat without being taxed like a HSF is. Another bonus is that the water is picking up the heat and taking it to the outside of the case if set up properly, this means that all the excess heat given off bt the cpu doesn't heat your case and all other components up along with it. But if you want to stay with air have heard reports that the new Alpha is doing a great job without to much noise.

Call me crazy but the more noise the better for me....Kinda like cars in a way...When i hear a late 70's car fly past me with some exhaust work done i strike a instant hard on....same thing with motorcycles, etc, etc....So goes for my PC...when i fire it up WOOOOOOOOOSSSHHHHH....my friends looke at me as if iam starting a JET plane..LOL ....call me wierd but i love the sound....

It's all well and good untill the case starts to hover off the floor! hehhehe :D

lol.....seat belts? lmfao
The new Alpha's are quiet?! I might fork over the cash.
I would love to do water, but i'm still a greenhorn. Need to get some weight under the belt. (and money)
If you can't stand the noise and are currently hydrophobic, try a Glaciator. Quiet and cool...
Use the first fan and DIERECT DUCT from the heatsink to the case side.
This will drop temps up to 8c ,and not increase noise,and cost like 5 bucks if you use a pvc bought reducer as I did on my dual.
I was at 45to 47c Now I am at 39c max load .
This was the best cooling mod I ever made,combine it with other fans for exhaust and intake and I am happy as hell.
Tomrow I am going to swap my screamers for some 92mm 50cfm fans at 35dba.My Deltas are 46.5 dba at 38cfm.Hoping the bigger quiter fans will cool as well as the screamers........but am concerned the slower blades will reduce preassure and cause higher temps.............We will see !

if you ever find that fan too noisy, you can sell it to me.:D
Someplace around here in one of the barns I have a large fan for use with a bon-fire. It is a gasoline motor with about a 5 foot wooden prop on it to blow lots of air and stoke up the fire. Seems this may be right up your alley for coolin that PC :)
You got a few choices;
a. duct cold air directly above it(possibly more noise 'cause of open path to the outside from your Delta screamer)
b. add a rheostat;
c. better heatsink that can absorb more heat & make use of the fans cooling potencial;
d. increase volume of music:D
e. earplugs:p
f. ALL OF THE ABOVE!!!!!
Cool the case !!!
Duct the processor fan.
These 2 tips are cheap and very effective.

Deltas are great: my 1ghz Athlon has gone from 1300 oc to 1417 with no other changes.
Of course, its in my basement. I cannot stand the noise of that thing!
CPU intake duct, and quiet case fans are the way to go in my book.

Water is great: my 1GHz athlon has gone from 1300 to 1575 with no other changes, and it's 15C cooler and half as loud ;)
Here are the ducts on My dualie.
Do this and use the slower quieter fan,It will be way better and way cooler.

I have been thinking like that too, water cooling is really in a totally different division(MUCH cooler:beer: ) than fans that produce irritating noise. The best thing about water cooling must be that you can separate the cooling surface from the computer case. This means that you can use much slower and quieter fans, or in the best of cases no fans at all.
Unfortunatley the money on varios HSF´s has already been spent. :(

Henry.

i feel ur pain man BUT this alpha is doing fine.. it took my 1.13 axia 9 to 1.333 at 41 load i WOULD go higher but the 9 version unlike the y version needs a here vcore to get higher and my motherboard can do only 1.85 tops which is not bad but from the data base i need 2.05 (thinking and reseaching maybe moding this sucker) but back to ur post.. the alpha is great and i got a great deal too i got it for about 44 bucks and it came with a 48.5 y-tech its the same amount of sound as my old 5000 rpm 60 mm fan on my volcano 2 so its a bit loud for me but WELL within my ok range.. thinking about duct a 120 mm fan to that and doing some fan laping or at least mod my side panel with a 120 mm fan :D u might want to look into that..
