I heard that the P4 does less work per clock compared to an XP, how much does an XP do?

Surely don't quote me on this but I believe it is 3.

Here is a 'competitive comparason' copied from AMD's website: http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_756_3734%5E3759,00.html

It says that the XP does 9 operations per clock cycle, while the P4 does 6, so the difference is 3

hmmm... is this right?
XP-1.7 Ghz (1.7 Billion Cycles) * 9 Operations = 15.3 Billion Operations per second

P4-1.7 Ghz (1.7 Billion Cycles) * 6 Operations = 10.2 Billion Operations per second

P4-2.2 Ghz (2.2 Billion Cycles) * 6 Operations = 13.2 Billion Operations per second

the amd solution does 1 work unit per cycle.
macintosh does approx. circa. 1 1/3 wu per cycle
and intel is cheap and does .75 approx. wu per cycle. doing that means either less work more cycles or vice versa. thats why intel has such high Ghz ratings but get their ass kicked so bad by a lower clocked amd. amd develped the xp rating system because people confused ghz with actual speed. an amd laughs at an equally clocked intel. do the math. 2ghzintel x .75 = 1.5ghz to compare to amd.

damn intel damn them so they burn
