Hi guys,

I recently bought a 4890 but my aging athlon 64 4200+ bottlenecked it, i only have a 17" monitor so playing at 1280x1024.

I've ordered an AM3 Athlon II 245 now... will this solve the bottleneck?

At that res, the bottleneck will be put on the CPU.

I think maybe you will still find a little bottleneck with that CPU. You may want to OC it a little bit.

Athlon II 245 will be fine if you give it a small oc of 3.2-3.4 .. i would start saving up for
a 23" or bigger monitor don't have to crazy on the price around $200.00 range and you will have great monitor
. Athlon II 245 is great cpu i have a Athlon II 250 and love it ...
Athlon II 245 will oc very easy and has geat temps and that 4890 will kick but in games.. but I would think about upgrading that monitor ..so you can use more of 4980 and less on of cpu ..when you start playing games at 1920X1080 res or bigger
then that card will shine for you ..good luck

So, you HAVE an AM3 board now? I'm not an AMD person. Forgive the ignorance.
Or are you going to get said board, and the CPU for it?

Because if you were doing the latter I'd go higher end if possible.

It won't bottleneck it nearly as much.
It probably will still bottleneck it somewhat.

haha, good old 17s. i still run mine in dual! Unless that CPU is overclocked, it will bottle neck. Apparently, some person on another forum said that his cpu was bottleneckin his 4850 up to 4.2ghz! But yeah, also depends on wat games you play and how they are scripted
