I'm building a new system...
EVGA E 760 Classified
i7-950
Corsair Dominator-GT 6GB
EVGA GTX295
Couple of 750 black to run mirrored
Windows 7 ultimate (when available)
I'm completely new to SSD and have been doing a little research but it still seems very foreign to me. My plan is to have all my data on the WD black drives and operatiing system with a few games on the SSD drive. I have about $400 to spend on the SSD. I've been looking at OCZ agility line because after the little research I've done seems that OCZ agility line is the best bang for the buck now I'm again confused on which one to get the SLC or the MLC... the SLC is about 2x the cost per GB.
I appreciate the help in advance and open to any advice!!!
Ive owned 3 drives. GSkill w/ JMicron controller (dont even think about it), OCZ Vertex 120gb, and Intel x25 G2 80gb.
Id definitely take the Vertex out of those. Screw the Agility, Vertex isnt much more (shop around, Newegg is high sometimes). However, if you want to save about $130, go with the Intel X25 G2 for sure.

Thanks for the reply! What about the SLC vs. MLC with the OSZ brand meaning:
is an Agility SLC > Vertex a MLC Vertex?
SLC's are faster than MLC's in general and will "last longer" although the lifespan on a MLC right now is plenty long enough for just about anyone.

I'm planing on getting a SSD Drive too. From what I've read, the Intel X25M G2's are the way to go. And they are more expensive. doz, what did you mean by " save yourself $130" by getting the Intel drives if they're more expensive?
I think he means the price of the Vertex 120GB vs X25-M 80GB.

OCZ Vertex or Intel G2 drive. Or really OCZ Agility isn't that bad of a deal if you can find it for a good price point, it does offer good performance just under that of the Vertex line for the price IMO.

how would the Intel X25 E (32gb SLC) stand up against these MLC's in benchmarks? I've been thinking bout picking one up to boot Win7 off of in place of my OCZ Vertex im currently using.
opinions?

SLC for reads is the same. Writes it will be ~3x quicker than the MLC intel drives.
Really no point to it because you'll be doing far more read operations then write operations on the drive.

I am currently thinking of building some systems for retail using OCZs Z drive. They use PCI-E instead of SATA and are about 3x faster on Read and Writes with most SSD's. They are pricey though.

I'd wait for the m84 version to launch. Depending on pricing, it might be worth it. For the currently available ones, you would probably be better off getting http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816131003 and throwing 3 or 4 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227394 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233090 (or whatever) on it.

Well I am looking for peek performance with little bottle necking. I'm looking into these for high end gaming rigs, Workstations, Servers and Network Storage in rack form if possible.
The big issue I am dealing with is trying to find the right Mobo's for these.

I got a similar system, 920 instead and ocz6gb ram instead.
Word of advice, ditch the 295, get a 5870. One out of every nine 295gtx that come out of the manufacturer are damaged or dead in some form. A buddy of mine came up with this number since he builds computers as a side job and of the past 91 295gtx's he had had 10 of them dead or needed to be replaced due to defects. (1-2month old numbers, he's gotten more 295s since then, havnt asked if any of the newer ones have been defective)
I made a mistake of going for a 295 and got a bad one, I was angry and ended up refunding it back to newegg and buying a 5870 (which is equal or better in most cases to the 295 even thought it is a single gpu card). The 5870 also has DX11 which is ideal if your getting a win7 OS and it also support eyefinity which if you plan to hook up 2 to 3 monitors in the future, this is the way to go.
NOW FOR SSDs:
The OCZ Vertex is probably the best of the OCZ lines and also the best of all current SSDs out there if you ignore price. I spent a few months following SSDs and their improvements, reviews, detailed reads, etc etc. and came to the conclusion that the vertex is the best currently out on the market. Two of my computer junkie friends and my other buddy who builds computers as a side job agree with me.
I got myself 2 60gb OCZ Vertex turbo's. These in raid are awesome. Althought they only have 1 firmware at the moment, so no hassle of having to flash update the firmware at the moment. They are fast and no issues installing anything on them. I been told that turbo is just extra cash and a waste, if you want to save some $$$(about 20-30bucks for the 60gb ones), then get the OCZ vertex instead and remember to flash the firmware. Also remember that you can't flash directly to the current 1.41 firmware without flashing 1.30 first. So I believe they come with 1.0: First flash to 1.3 then flash to current 1.41.
Also keep this in mind: OCZ might show 30/60/120gb and so on for their drives while others show 32/64/128gb and so on. But OCZ drives actually have 32/64/128; I read somewhere that they advertise lower because they assume the OS will take up the remainder of the drive or something in that manner.
And don't worry about the 5870 compatability with the evga x58 mobo, they have no issues and you can ebay or sell your SLI bridges to your friends if you don't think you will need them.
