Look: GF4MX benchmarks!

I pulled this straight off the Apple.com site, after getting a tip from TR.

holy s**** thats amazing.....oh wait i can do that on a GTS.....seriously though.....shouldnt a Geforce4 be getting like 500fps in QIII? or did Apple manage to crappify the performance of a Geforce4 even.....

Not too impressive, that is for sure- my Celeron and GTS get better scores. I don't understand why Apple even mentions such crappy scores, let alone use them as an ad. People don't really buy Macs to play Q3 and stuff on, wrong market. heh, I'm not impressed till I see 200+.

Nice boost from the single 933 to the dual 1ghz though, that is pretty amazing.

The difference between the 800 with Radeon and 933 with GF4MX is kind of disappointing, tho- only 21FPS. Shouldn't it be a lot bigger?

What about RTCW, etc? On my box RTCW has maybe half the FPS of Q3, does that mean that the best Mac gets only 57fps at RTCW? What about even more demanding games?

Not too impressive?!? Are you kidding, look at the numbers. 115 fps for the GF4MX with dual 1 Ghz vs. 59fps for the GF2mx with dual 800 Mhz.

That sound really impressive, after all it´s the MX version.

you do realize that this Geforce4 MX should be faster than your 8500. while most PC users can achieve these benchies on a Geforce2 GTS.....

henry you are being sarcastic right? it took them 4 generations of video card to not even double their frame rates.

As I understand it the GF4MX so far has not been 'MXed' like the rest- it is basically a rebadge of the GF3Ti200 instead of being crippled like the current MXs.

These are some very good numbers for an Apple, but not very impressive by PC standards. Well, impressive by PC standards of 2 years ago maybe:)

Heh, I don't know how Apple does it, but fps on a Mac suck. I don't care what game you're playing I never got good fps with my G4. However, thank god I don't play games anymore.

My question is how fast those dual 1ghz machines crunch dnet? If My G4/400 can keep up with my 1ghz athlon, what could 2 G4/1ghz do?

It doesn't makes sense, Macs can do everything else fine so why no game power?? Even with a duallie gig machine and a GF4 they are still slow. Well, they are a LOT better now at least, thanks to this new card, I know some Mac users that wil be VERY happy to get this card. Mac folks everywhere, rejoice!:)

Are all those machines using the same type of CPU, same chipset, etc? I can't tell.

At one point I remember somebody mentioning "write-combining" as the problem. Meaning that macs didn't have it on the agp bus while PC's do. That was a while ago, a couple of years ago so I don't know if that's the excuse still.

Yeah, all those computers have the same 133mhz bus and basically same architecture, just different cpu's.

I thought Apple had to license the whole AGP bus deal from Intel, did that not include the whole of AGP tech? what about PCI vid cards, Macs are still slow with those too. There's gotta be something they left out, I have a hunch it is something very deeply buried that is an unfixable(or else they would have fixed it) part of the OS. Well, don't matter too much, now macs are fast enough for most games it seems.

Dude, Macs definately get the Gold Star for pure number crunching, a dual G4 would be the dnetc KING! I'd love to see how fast they chew up work packets, make my ghz Celeron look like a Cyrix GX:D
