Very soon, I am going to load W7 on an SSD (probably an 80GB G2 Intel) and use a conventional HDD for my data. I am still not sure exactly how to configure this so the OP system and Apps reside on the SSD and "Documents" and data reside on the HDD. This was recently discussed in another thread but it is still not clear to me how to actually set it up.

To test this configuration and gain some experience with it before I take the plunge on my main desktop, I want to use an unused 16GB Mini PCI-e drive that I removed from a netbook I recently purchased to test this configuration in a spare computer. Problem is it has a Mini PCI-e interface. Is there an adapter so it can be used as a SATA II drive?

you can just move my docs/my pic/my music and all the other folders straight onto your data drive. since xp ive just selected the folders i want, then while holding control - right click the folders , drag them to the drive in my left window pane, release click and a drop down menu with "move here" appears... of course this is just habit for me. you can also "move" via properties dialog boxes in your start menu. keep in mind if you move your desktop the icons wont show up ( they will dissapear) unless you hit refresh or restart your computer. your library icons can get confused for a bit but should sort themselves out. its also easier to leave any hidden folders out of it like app data.\

there are mini pcie to pcie adapters which should perform just as well. not sure about sata.

Its actually called a ZIF connector and adapters are available for it, a quick google came up with quite a few places that have them.
Heres just a few :

according to the sites theyre transparent to the OS and need no drivers (except the drives im assuming)

as far as redirecting your my docs etc to store them on a different drive, right click the folder your moving (My Documents for example) and go to the location tab, you can now specify your alternate drive and location of the new My Documents folder.

^ This is in vista ultimate 64bit, im assuming that windows 7 is similar to this ^
