How can I mod a dual cable (ATA 100) into a single cable? (without the Secondary Plug in the middle)
On mine, I just cut the ribbon off after the first drive plug.
They don't have dead conductors or twisted sections like the old ones used to have. These were used to tell the mobo which was the last device.
Now the're just flat all the way down to the end, so you can cut it off where you'd like. You can also remove and change the location of the plug before you cut it, for custom length...this one is 16cm.
you can buy special single IDE cables at any cable storee - FRYS carries them too.....

there is a way to remove the connector in the middle. On both sides of the connector you can see two clips. Try to get a small headed screwdriver in there. I tried to remove mines but I broke the clip, so if you plan to reconnect that connector be very carefully. I believe there is a first clip, that covers the second one that goes underneath the first clip. you should be able to see the top of cable as well as pins that protrude through it. Carefully remove the pins to you dont puncture or stretch the plastic around the wires. You should be able to remove the pins and the connector. You might want to wrap that area with tape so that there is no interference with the signals. This should work
