Audio Modem Riser. Its for special audio and modems to leech CPU usage off.
They whould have named them PMW slots.
Pretty Much Worthless.

You can find AMR modems pretty cheap, but they're usually pctel winmodem junk...I'm sure they'll work good enough though. If you've got an AMR and are looking to save PCI slots it may be worth it. I've yet to notice any AMR audio cards, but they'd be cheapo oem solutions anyway...
Yep, pretty much worthless, and if you have one and wish you had an extra PCI slot and use dialup than an AMR modem might suit you...otherwise you may never use it! An AMR NIC card might be kinda neat...again though, only if you need the pci slot! lol...

Also, i think there suppose to be replacing ISA slots, but i've never seen products that use AMR.

Replacing isa, isn't that what pci is for?:eh?: I always wondered what amr slots where for, I looked it up one day. I'm still confused.

I'm a college student with a T1 connection. I only use modems when I am at home or the ethernet is down. AMR was the best option for me. Then I upgraded to an AK31. Now what the heck is the CNR slot for????????
CNR = Communication and Networking Riser
It's an advanced AMR slot that supposed to let u put a networking card too. It's an intel thing, amd's standard is now the ACR. Confusing yes, but don't worry, support is shady, if at all, and pci's are still the kings of expansion. This site explains a little.

Beware though, most of these boards, be it CNR or AMR are not always compatible. Some boards might work with your mobo, others won't, when those that don't might work on another type. Best bet is to buy the AMR\CNR from your mobo manufacturer.. Hope this helps, tread carefully. Tell me how it goes, I have seen some boards with the slots, but decided against em, I would rather buy my own PCI boards separately since I am not totally sure about the performance.

You shouldn't buy one of these cards in the first place, because they leach CPU performance. A ambient PCI modem can be had for $15, so why buy one of these performance killers. It's like running 85 octane gas in your car thats the same price as 87.
