Do avi files include digital sound? For example. would the avi file include the dolby digital score or dts score embedded in the file? Also, can most dvd players read avi files?

No, there is no player external to a computer that can read avi . Only way you can read it is on a PC or MAC

As for the sound, depends on how the guy made the video... Youll only get stereo my friend...

Better question is how do you convert Avi to Divx, which many DVD players read.

To answer your question though, no. AVI doesn't work like that.
It's not a very high end format at this point in the game.
