Tweakie, only in the Classies can you sell stuff.

Muelo, it's never the same as a 5.1 or 7.1 system. The speakers in the headsets are too close for your ears to pick up much in directional sound. It might help, might not.

I got the Turtle Beach ones with many drivers in the headset. It kinda helps, I like to use them, but it don't replace my 5.1 Z-5500 setup with speakers set a good distance behind me. I can really tell the diff.

5 millions years of evolution and the design of our ears isn't made for the rear channels to be 1.25 inches from our ear drums.

From a post on the same thing a couple of days ago :

Just to clarify on my first point.

5.1 surround speakers use the fact that you can space them far away from your head and in the correct position.

Craming 5 Drivers into a small housing is like taking you whole 5.1 speaker setup and placing it half a meter away from you surrounding you.

You are correct in thinking that by having 5 seperate drivers, you can have 5 seperate channels, but because they are all placed in a relatively small housing, you cannot get the correct placement or space to make it sound realistic.

Therefore, these "5.1" headphones have to use the software to enhance the sounds, which means that the loud bits are made louder and "sent" to only one of the drivers to try to simulate that the sound is actually coming from that direction.

They will also turn down the ambeint sound, so that when a loud bang comes over your shoulder, it is more pronounced.

Having a properly designed Stereo pair of headphones (take the AD700s for example), will mean that the 'Soundstage' that people go on about will allow you to accurately place footsteps because it is realistic.

yeah, you could really just go with some 'virtual' 5.1 surround sound gaming headsets.
if you want something really gaming-looking look up the Logitech G35. it hasn't got real surround sound, but this headset can mimmick virtual 7.1 surround sound.
it'll do...for me anyway :p

In general, surround sound headphones don't exist. The ones that attempt it only succeed in seperating channels and halfway emulating it... it still ends up sounding like stereo headphones. The disadvantages pile up from there...

More plugs, worse design per dollar (when you need 3 drivers per ear at a minium, the drivers will generally suck), and on top of all that, let's face it, headphones in and of themselves can only really persent stereo anyway, you're only fooling the newb in you if you think it works well.

I have one of these mics, but I detest using mics. It's available if I need one and NOT attached to my headphones, but can function almost similarly to a inline mic.

They are huge, but they should fit most people without issues. It'll be like wearing a helmet. Also they auto adjust.

I'd say they're only slightly bigger than any other headphones I have. The size or apparent size comes from stuff that sticks out from them.

I have Astro Gaming A40 headset for gaming. It's not as good as the Sennheiser 650, but it's still excellent and the built-in mic is very crisp and clear.
