Ok, so my friend is trying to play a game, he has the same video card I have, and I can play fine, 70-100 FPS, but his game freezes after about 5-10 mins and he ends up having to hard start his comp.
Any ideas? We are using the MSI 8800 GTS, same drivers.

Something else, my GPU seems to run at 69C idle... Is that supposed to do that?
That's rather hot but should be fine, I run mine at 90°C 24/7 while folding.
I did have a similar problem with my old 7600gt, that turned out to be something with the motherboard, not the card itself. What are his other specs?

90C is very hot. I run my 9800GT folding 24/7, and have yet to go over 75. That will all change once I can get the time and motivation to install my Accelero on it.
I have heard of bad PCI-E slots causing similar problems. Also, is the card overclocked? If so, what speeds is it running at? Is the CPU overclocked without the PCI-E locked at 100 MHz? A complete listing of the components in the system and all of the settings as far as overclocks, and the like will make it a lot easier for us to help you trace down the cause of the problem.

I know it's hot, but there are many factors that cause it.
1. A 8800GTX above it with a HR-03 heating up the area around the cards.
2. Very little clearance between the card and the bottom of the mobo compartment
3. Custom fan profile flashed to BIOS to make it as quiet as safely possible under 100% load.

Mean_dm we need some more information. What temps are his card get up to when playing a game? What brand power supply and wattage rating? Is it overclocked.
69C idle is warm. HOwever idle temps do not matter. What is your max load temp while playing games? Again keep it around 80C.
And the general rule of thumb is to keep a GPU under 80C. 90C isnt harmful but its AWFULLY warm for my tastes.

That freeze is due to OCing or heat.
Make sure your friends fan speed is running @ 100 percent when gaming,
You can do this with rivatuner found here www.guru3d.com
This should have him set, let us know what happens.,,
