View Full Version : Removed IHS need heatsink help?
Ok I finally removed the IHS with a good amount of work to get it off. Now my question is can someone give me some links or tell me how to get better contact with the core it's not quite touching properly. So any advice help would be appreciated.
Lap the heatsink for a first attempt.
Well I have a coolermaster and the sk6. I'll try lapping it and then post back.
I have two SK-6's and I tweaked the clips on both so that they sit a little tighter. It seems to have helped them cool their respective CPU's a bit better and reduces some of the slop that they had.
OK I finally got it up again and I have the sk6 and its at 1600mhz at 39c idle. So does anyone else have any ideas how to make better contact. Something is telling me its still not touching right.

I made a shim from clear packaging tape. Layer upon layer is the way I do it.
Are you sure your lapping correctly? Wet sandpapers on glass etc... Made sure you didn't moved on to the next grit until the first layer is completely sanded?
How good are you applying thermal paste? very thin layer?
Thanks ol'man for the suggestion. When I put the ASII on its super thin and almost not even visible. I lapped it starting at 220 grit going all the way to 1500. I have more time today so Im really gonna take time and sand it.
