Pretty much what the title says... I installed Steam on my fresh new Windows 7 install and turned the PC off for the night. Got home from work the next day and my PC would not boot all the way into Windows.

It would get to the desktop, but before any applications loaded it would hang. I could move my mouse around but thats it. I couldn't click on anything, and the cursor switched to the busy animation when I moused over the task bar.

I boot into safemode and remove Steam. Everything is peachy again...

It doesn't make much sense to me... I used Steam in the Win7 beta and RC and had no issues at all.

Anybody have any ideas or experiencing similar issues? I may try installing it again when I get home tonight to see if I get that hang on startup again.

I can say that I use Windows 7 Home Premium (upgrade) and I have no issues with Steam. That is quite strange that it is locking up like that. You could try to disable Steam through msconfig if reinstalling exhibits the same behavior; see if that prevents the lockups.

So if you set Steam to not launch with Windows and then start it once Windows boots up, does it still have the same problem?

I would try re-installing Steam, I haven't had any problems with W7 Pro 64-bit and Steam.

Well, windows booted fine in safe mode, I will re-install and leave it at the default so it starts with windows. If I hang, I'll disable it through msconfig like thideras suggested.

Thanks guys, I'll let you know what happens.

I run Steam on Windows 7 64-bits version (Ultimate) and no problems so far. I play TF2 no problems (except I lowered my AA to go around an Nvidia driver issue for now).

Note that before I installed it, I right click the installer and set its compatibility properties to XP with admin rights enabled.

Well.. it seems it was a freak/one-time issue. I reinstalled and everything is fine.

Thanks for the suggestions and help guys.
