View Full Version : Fallout 3... Love/Hate

Recently i managed to get all of the DLC packs for Fallout 3 and thot it would be great to play through it again as i loved it the first time round, since i had all the DLC it would make the game oh so much better!! And it did... for a while...
Started playing the game as usual, got out of the vault... went to megaton... did the survival guide quest and decided to do one of the side quests, operation anchorage, actually i stumbled upon it... anyway, it was a very good part, not especially long but i dont think any of the packs are, hence why there are 5 of them... so did that and got some sweet winter power armour!! Which never needs repaired it seems!! Sweeeet!!
Then onto the Pitt... this one was shorter but still good... then onto mothership zeta, which i stumbled upon as well... i was just wandering along tra-la-la then i was abducted!! Managed to escape before the anal probing tho...
Completed that side quest and made it back to the wasteland... started exploring again and stumbled upon a garage... hmmm i thot... i need a motorcycle gas tank and handbrake to make a shishkebab so i went inside to explore....
**Warning SPOILERS!!** You have been warned...
Found a motorcycle gas tank but no handbrake... oh well, discovered a switch to open up a hatch to lead to the lower levels... and what was down there?? Vault 112!! I thot ooooh!! somewhere to explore (it has been a while since i last completed this game so i forgot the relevance of this vault) so i wandered in none the wiser only to discover its the computer lab thing where daddy is... so i went "Oh $h*t" and ran straight back out of there!! But since i encountered the robot at the entrance it starts the quest.... therefore it is impossible to do any of the other parts of the main quest before this point.... and thats a lot of parts!!
**Warning NO MORE SPOILERS!!**
So now i am annoyed... im toying with the idea of starting the whole thing again but being a bad man...im too nice, i always feel the need to help people... but this time i might just kill everybody i see and blow up megaton...
Rant over....:screwy:

Roll a new character.
Leave the vault
Sneak over to do the Anchorage stuff
Equip the Chinese Stealth Suit
Do a "player.additem 0006F210 1"
Now go slaughter everything on the map
Go back and do your quests on EZ mode
Unlike machine guns, which do upwards of 75-85 damage per burst, each shot from Sonora Cruz's 10mm pistol does 110 damage.
Combine the Rate of Fire with the abundance of ammo and the pretty decent spread, Sonora Cruz's 10mm pistol is better than everything except the Fatman and Experimental MIRV.
I can squeeze off about 5-7 shots per second with that pistol so I charge every Albino Scorpion and Mutie Overlord I can find.
Eh, the terrible shotgun (its awesome) is the best weapon in the game. It can one hit kill a behemoth:

I recently installed it and played through the main quest. Definitely enjoying my 20 hours with it so far. Gonna' jump off of one of my Jefferson Memorial saves and start being a bad guy... or just mopping up all the side-quests. I'm a pretty big sci-fi guy, so to have the feel and scale of Oblivion (which I also enjoyed) put to a post-apocalyptic environment is A-Ok in my book. And even when the game is utterly exhausted, I doubt I'll ever get truly tired of VATS :):)
Thats why I sorta hated Fallout 3. I was in the process of beating the game and didn't realize till the very end. And had no saves that went back far enough to avoid it.
lol, yes, that end-of-game deal blindsided me too. I'm so glad Oblivion had got me in the habit of saving after every successful footstep  (I think I might have breached 1500+ saves with that game.)

The end of the game also surprised me as well. I was also rather annoyed since fawkes would not go in and enter the code even though there was WAY less radiation then when you are getting the GECK.
Overall I thought it was a decent game, the visuals were spectacular. But there were a lot of little things that bugged me about it and so, at least for me it was no where near the level of fallout 2.

I was just looking forward to doing the main quest from the start but now i cant do with without going back to a save game... since it autosaves so much i dont bother with proper saves... now i sort of wish i did...
FO3 is the best game I have played in awhile. I have been playing it off & on for the last year. I need to buy the DLC packs though. Do you have to buy them one at a time or can you get them all in one pack?

I bought 2 of them in the states... (they sell in pairs unless you get the GOTY edition which includes all 5) Op. Anchorage and the pitt, then i borrowed the disc of a friend for Point lookout and Broken Steel... and it seems the only way to get mothership zeta is to get the GOTY edition, which i wasnt willing to buy for obvious reasons... so i obtained it via other ways...
Well worth it tho coz they all add cool new weapons and areas n stuff...

How do you find this weapon?
_______________
After reading all your guys comments, at 25H, I'm halfassing this game...
I kill everyone... with few exceptions.
I don't think I've found a single DLC area yet- despite having ALL DLC installed...
I killed the ghouls getting into Tenpenny tower, I killed everyone in tenpenny tower. I killed everyone in megaton (with the bomb) I killed everyone in big town, minefield, girdershade...
Maybe once I finish I will start over and try to play all the mini quests and be a good person. I have constant runins with the police (regulators) and my karma is like negative one million...
I was GOING to do olbivion after this-- I never played it-- it just lives in my drawer since forever.. then buy borderlands.
I might buy borderlands and redo FO3 at the same time...

You can still do the quests leading up to vault 112. Its just that you might not get the prompts and there will be some subtle changes in your rewards. This forum post should be spot on for your problem.

How does one acquire this weapon??
It looks like th eonly place I can buy Mothership Zeta is on Windows Live account. That is an Xbox 360 site. I have to buy 800 points to download it but I cannot tell if it is the Xbox 360 game or the PC game. there is no designation for the DLC on the site. Any thoughts?

I've only seen broken steel/point lookout and the Pitt for sale individually. I just bought the GOTY with all the expansions.

If you had to pick between Fallout 3 and Borderlands, which one would you get?

I'd say pick up FO3 standalone which is cheaper now. The DLC is just kinda meh... It's good- but it's not worth paying twice as much good. Know what I mean?
Then get Borderlands too.

Yeh that looks like it would be for the 360... it lists achievements at the bottom which you dont get in the pc version... if you dont have any of the DLC maybe wait till the GOTY edition drops in price... its a bit crappy the way they have worked it out...

Seriously the DLC is good-- but it's inferior in quality overall to most of the stuff you run into in the wasteland. Some of it's great but it's not worth the cash great.

Fallout 3 hands down is one of the most fun RPG/FPS's I've played in a long, long time.
Kind of wish I hadn't sold it :bang head

In case you haven't found the wiki yet.

I like that shottty alot. I used it as a primary for a while. Then got tired of fixing it. It is a great weapon to have, and fun to get. I stumbled across it. And fell in love. I like it a little more than the Victory Rifle. Each has it's own charms, but not in every situation.
When I first beat the game. I stumbled into the ending, as was like WTF! Then the next time I played. I wanted to see how fast I could beat it. Then I went with specialized playing styles. Like going hands on only. No guns and a seriously, sneaky - deadly ninja toon. Which was very challenging to say the least.
Now I am doing every nook and cranny of the world and trying for every viable quest. I think will make the game fun for me. Learning from past experiences playing the game.
You get the terrible shotgun from some raider in a cave. Look it up on youtube, there are a ton of guides for it.
