Just got a new 1800+ and it won't fit in the Socket. It's like the wafer is warped. I can get one end in, but then the other end won't go down. Has anyone else had this problem? I have two other 1800+ cpu's and they fit in the same Socket just fine. Going to call and request a replacement.

That's the first time I've heard of that problem with the XPs. It does stand to reason though, with the organic packaging being flexible whereas the old ceramic CPUs were much stiffer.

I'd look for a replacement for that processor as well.

There was another problem seemingly related to this, posted by TC. I believe his thread was in the SETI column. If you are so inclined, give a look back about two weeks. TC's thread dealt with the CPU "warping" when certain HSFs were installed.

Good Luck!

Check real carefull and make sure you don't have a bent pin on the cpu. They can be straightend without breaking off if you go eazy.

and make sure you have the part with the arrow pointing to the place on the socket that is missing the corner pin, and ya, my cpu had a slightly bent pin and i straitened it w/out any trouble

I looked and didn't see any bent pins. I'm just going to get a replacement. My luck if there was one bent it would break and I would be SOL. :( Thanks, Kent

i agree with the bent pin theory, sometimes you cant see that it is bent unless you hold it level to your eye. every chip i have gotten has had bent pins....no prob though.

You were right guys. A single "slightly" bent pin. I went FREAKIN' crossed eyed looking for it!!! Thanks for the help.

I got the same problem initially with my 1800+. Bent pin, put it back, and it fitted in.

I think it's a bad development CPU's getting so fragile. Or is it just another trick to f*** the ones who like to build their computers themselves... just like the advanced L1's on the XP.:eh?:

First, make sure you have socket A mobo.
