Windows 7 included some unfinished code that is allowing any notebook to become a Wi-Fi hotspot. You can get the beta software for free.

This is a novice talking here but will using the laptop as a wifi lower the performance of the laptop?

Of course.

Significantly? Probably not. Unless you have a 50 computers torrenting farm behind it.

mmm... I still think the router is better, might be just me but I would rather not have people connect to my laptop and using it as a hot spot. Besides router does a better job when it comes leaving it on all the time.

But the idea is cool though. It would be specially usefully when you don't have a wireless router.
