View Full Version : peltier power to much for supply???
??? is, I have a 156w peltier and a Enermax 365 PSU.
can it handle both system and peltier ?
the peltier will run at 12v@11a, not sure if the watt will stay the same.
from what I read a 250-300w no-name PSU will handle peltier alone.
???
You will need a 651 to run your system and the pelt. FWIW, my first 651 lasted under two months in this configuration.

Get a bench supply, they work well and you're less likely to burn anything out.
I agree. A bench supply was my solution.
Dedicated Power Supplies:

Melcor (http://www.melcor.com/powersup.htm)
Jameco (http://www.jameco.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=91&prrfnbr=3652&cgrfnbr=780&ctgys=503;528;780;)
And my personal favorite, the mighty Astron VLS 35M (http://www.astroncorp.com/w28.shtml)
so, I should use a second PSU.
I have both a 250w and 300w, but they both say the 12v@10a
hate to have to spend more.
It's been so long since I ran a 156 watt pelt I can't remember exactly how many amps it pulled at 12 volts. I believe it was a little over 11 amps. This would suggest your PSUs don't have enough juice. The one thing you don't want to short a pelt on is current.

the 156w pelt i have here pulls an average of 12.5amps, using the ammeter i have on it, but it's rated to pull 15amps, my psu can supply up to 25amps @12v, i run it at 14v, and it works best right there. I wouldn't use any sort of computer psu to power one of these things, you could wire two in series and might just pull it off, but i wouldn't wanna do it that way, as stated before you'll prolly burn one or both supplies rapidly, they're just not made for that kind of load/duty cycle.
