View Full Version : Core and DIMM voltages for OCed XPs

I'm working on overclocking my XP 1700+ on my Epox 8KHA+. Currently, I'm running a 145 fsb with 256MB Crucial at Epox's "normal" timings and I haven't changed any voltages yet. My system is 99% stable at this speed (not higher), but I was wanting to push it just a little bit farther...without frying any components, of course.
1) What is a good guideline for determining my change in Voltage (Core and DIMM) as I increase my bus?
2) What equation should I use to determine my PCI latency?
If you guys could post the voltages and PCI latencies you're using past 145MHz, I would be most appreciative.
Thanks
basicaly if u push it and it runs u should be ok with whatever pci latency and if u push it and things mess up u should be able to just set it back a notch and have eveything go back to normal
EDIT: btw correct me if i am wrong anyone lol i am not compleatly sure but this is how it has been for me and i am at 162mhz fsb right now

How far did you have to push your voltages and Latency to achieve 162?

Heat kills not voltage.
If your CPU temps are under 50C max load then your ok.
All of us run at 1.85V CPU and I have a Delta on my memory, so its now at 3.2V!!!!

All my chips never see below 1.85. With good cooling all CPU's can do it safe. I have never messed with PCI latency.

If i up the cpu voltage and ram voltage will it crease more heat, like how much?

Oh yeah. I am presently at 2.3v on vcore and water cooled. DDR is at 2.7v. According to radiate my processor wattage is about double the stock speed wattage. The xp's do not seem to perform well at extreme voltage settings so my geuss is no more than 2.0 would suffice. Heat (remember the preceeding) is the killer.

I have a XP 1800+ running @ 1815 unlocked (finally! ) @ 1.90v and my memory is @ 2.7. My mobo is a Asus a7v266-E and 512MB of no special brand memory running @ 12,5 x 145. I set pci latency to 64 but i read at www.lostcircuits.com that someone said that with 128 latency you should increase by 15% your perfomance. My scores in hdtach about the raid setup went a bit higher with the latency set that high and if you have a SB LIVE 5.1 like me, you should correct some errors by increasing the pci latency, but i'm not very sure how it works.

The 8KHA+ allows PCI latency to be like 500!
What does it do? I'm having trouble past 165FSB because of PCI cards so can I set this to slow em down and thus fix the problem??
I have an NIC, SBLive! and a 56k Modem.

By what i know, setting the latency higher, you can make pci stable but it may slow it down because it gives more time to the cards, i think.
Use Sisoft to check out the pcis as it will let you know what if any card is hogging the board due to a long latency.

That's correct. All I'm hearing around is that you set it higher until your rig is stable. Thanks for the replies.
