CD-ROM woes

hey guys, got a friend who has cdrom probs:

she said her cdrom randomly ejects, telling her she has "unplugged the cdrom drive" and "not to do it without turning off her pc first" (dunno exact msg). she can no longer play audio cd's anymore, no software was installed and she is running windows2000 (no SP2). the problem suddenly happened, and I am just posting this to trouble shoot as i can't get to her place for a bit. thanx for any clues

check that the drive is connected properly
otherwise its probably a dodgy drive

that's what i figured. I kinda guessed that somehow a power/interface cable came undone after sometime, and is now creating a problem. if it's a bad drive, new cdrom it is..thanx
