What is the rest of your computer? This sounds like a hardware conflict to me.
Just check to make sure that your sound device is set to your sound card. Installing the ethernet card might of changed the sound settings ( maybe.... ).

A couple things to check.
First, make sure you didnt "bump" the sound card out of the lost, or at least part way. Check to make sure its seated properly.
Second, try not to use two adjoining (next to each other) slots, when putting in cards. Some MB's you will be ok, others you wont, and some MB's will "share" slots.
Third, go into your "computer/system/device manager", and check to see if there are any hardware conflicts. Occasionally, you will get PNP devices that arent compatible, or like to both use the same system resources.

im pretty sure i didnt touch any other card when i put it in, and the ethernet card is a PCI card the other card i have is about 3 slots away
heres what it says about the soundcard under device manager in general tab
This device is either not present, not working properly or does not have alll the drivers installed (code 24)
in the resources tab it says there are no conflicts
