Can I use Intel HD audio drivers with AC97?

I have an older motherboard with AC97 audio chipset. It's an AMD mobo with a 500 chipset or something. I see the HD audio has better quality and want to know if I can use the drivers. I have a Z5500 speaker setup and would like a better sound.

My case has azalia, and ac97 plugs that plug into the mobo. Only the ac97 is plugged in right now. Can this be done?

The better sound you get with HD audio chipsets is due to the fact that it's completely different hardware. The drivers are not interchangeable, and even if they were, you wouldn't gain anything by using them.

If you want better sound, buy a sound card.
