View Full Version : My Quad xeon p4 seti cruncher with 32GB ram
Take a look at This (http://www.tech-report.com/etc/2001q4/comdex/index.x?pg=13) Quad P4 Xeon board. It supports up to 32GB registered ddr and dual channel SCSI 160. This thing would make the best seti cruncher. Just immagine 4 xeons water cooled at 3 GHZ each.
If that's not enough to get you excited, take a look at this beast. This is the Thunder GC-HE, supporting up to four Xeon processors via the Serverworks "Grand Champion" HE chipset. A memory expansion card plugs in between the processors and the expansion slots, allowing up to 32GB of registered DDR memory. Other notables include seven PCI-X slots, dual LAN and optional dual-channel Ultra-160 SCSI. We can't even look at it without giving a Tim Allen grunt.
lmao
only 1 slot for ram?
that will be one expensive stick of ram, lol
*drools over the thought of 4 x 3ghz northwoods*
do u need a loan for it? ill only charge 20% intrest and if you dont pay back in 4 months ill only break one leg!
compare that to others who will break both legs :p

damn, how much is that thing?
i think i may go for it :D hehehe
wow. very nice. you could have a 20 gig ram drive with plenty of room to spare.

I would love to have one of those to brag about but i wouldn't know if i would use alll that power. If i could buy the board and chips all under $2000 i might consider it this spring.
does Seti even run multithreaded?
What about an operating system? You would need Windows 2000 server....$$$$$$
or may be linux, don't know if there is a free 4 processor version.

I want it.
I am planning on a new rig soon anyway..............too bad the price for the mobo probably exceeds my entire pc budget this spring!

If only it was quad athlons. Drool.
almost no programm and no game supports multicpu boards....so what would you use this for? and 3ghz? i heard 1.7 is the highest standart and i doubt you can oc it almost 90% .....and how much would it cost? :eh?:

Quake 3 supports multiprocessor, and there are dozens of applications that do too. Ever hear of Autocad, Photoshop etc? If nothing supported multiprocesor, why would they sell multiprocessor systems and boards?

They'd sell them for web servers and database work.
It is true that most programs don't support smp but that doesn't mean its not useful. You could run many intense programs at once and the os will distribute the load over the 4 cpus. you could be running seti on 3 cpus and do your cad work on the fourth. Windows xp has a nice cpu load graph so you can tell how much heach cpu is loaded. My buddies dual 1.4 on is so sweet. I ran seti at full priority and I still have another 1.4GHZ to play with. Normaly with seti at full priority you cant do anything on your computer. By the way the 3GHZ cpus I mensioned would be overclocked.

As far as i know they make P4 2.2 prestonias that are socket 630.
So you could have a 8.8ghz ready to be overclocked. Imagine that! 10ghz+
