I have had this machine up and going for around 2 weeks and my temps were around 39C. I decided to remove the thermal pad that is supplied with the stock HSF and apply some ASII to maybe get a few degrees better temps. So I applied some today and noticed that my temps are worse! I have never used the stuff and am afraid that I applied too much. I did remove the thermal pad and poop that was left behind. I used some goo gone and alcohol. I applied a bit on the HS and rubbed it off with a paper towel. Then dabbed a bit from the HS to the processor and applied it with a razor. My current temps are around 41c to 43c at browsing and just hosing around. Let me know what I could do to see better temps.

something is wrong because i'm at 16C above room temperature with only minor programs running. I'm also overclocked right now using my 1800 @ 2019 with stock heatsink and fan along with artic silver. Are you sure you have enough on the surface of the heatsink and chip. I put enough on then twisted back and forth my heatsink ontop the cpu until i felt it kinda like was adhereing to it.

I am not sure if there is enough on there or not but I will remove it and look at it! What are your temps at?

Well after doing some research I have found that the Goo Gone was not a good idea! RTFM stupid! I am going to go ahead and lap the HSF but what do I do with the processor?

Just clean up the CPU core with alcohol. It's a fine art to applying the "right" amount of Arctic Silver. You don't want too much or too little.
Alcohol won't remove the residue from the Goo Gone. The residue from the Goo Gone is contaminating the thermal interface. Get some xylene (Goof Off). Clean your HS and CPU followed by IPA. If you want to remove all of the Goo Gone and residue from the thermal pad, you will need to lap your HS. For more information on why, read Thermal Interface Basics (http://www.arcticsilver.com/thermal_interface_basics.htm).
Here is a quote from the instructions. (http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm)
Never use any oil or petroleum based cleaners (WD-40, citrus based grease removers and many automotive degreasers) on the base of a heatsink. The oil, which is engineered to not evaporate, will fill in the microscopic valleys in the metal and significantly reduce the effectiveness of any subsequently applied thermal compound.
And yes, I posted this at the H too. ;)
Err heres my suggestion:
Make sure your using isoprophyl to clean everything (Everything left over from the pad). Then clean the IHS I'm assuming and the heatsink base completely let it evaporate and wait one minute.
Take your ASII tube and make the smallest push you can to get it out onto the heatsink
From the heatsink you take the blade and take very little by little then until you fill the core. Then wipe the heatsink finish it off with taking a lint free cloth to rub the heatsink base so all the left over ASII is in the sand grinds.
Make sure you use a lint-free cloth and do not touch the heatsink or core after its been cleaned.
Yodums - IPA alone won't cut the Goo Gone.
Then use acetone or fingernail remover, that stuff works on anything.
I think I would trust Nevin's recommendation on this. I believe he knows more about this than any of us. ;)

I emailed Nevin and he told me to use the Goof Off and then some isoprophyl. He mentioned that short of Lapping the HSF that would be the best approach. For the CPU P4 just use the Goof Off and isoprophyl and that would be fine but he said if I wanted to I could carefully Lap the CPU since its a P4. I don't think I have the BALLS to Lap the CPU Core but I will Lap the HSF!
Thanks for all of your help guys!

FWIW, this is the first time I have ever heard Nevin recommend lapping a core. It seems like every time I got a new Bird last year I got the same speach "you're not going to lap this one are you?" Perhaps this illustrates how important it is to keep the thermal interface clean.

If you are still curious about my temps here they are as follows at this moment. I just finished seti about an hour ago and my motherboard temp will still drop lower.
P4 2019 : 84F (29C) next jump will be 2070 soon!
ASUS P4T : 75F (24C)
room temp : 62F (17C)

I know something that works like a charm. Finger nail polish remover.

Phoenix I have a TH7II - Raid and the CPU temp is not even close to that cool but then again I don't have the room temp at 60c degrees. My room temp is around 10c difference. Not bad I guess but I wonder how accurate the actual CPU sensor is?
BTW my temps have dropped back to what they were before the Artice Silver! 37c-39c idle! I wonder what they are going to be once I Lap the HSF!

RodZilla - After living in AMD land for too long it just dawned on me, you have a P4. With the heat spreader, lapping it is easy. No chance of killing the chip as with a Flip Chip or AMD. Please let us know what your results are.

Hmm, those temps don't sound bad to me. They do lower a little more after a couple of days though. If in dought reapply it, follow the directions this time though. If you think you put it on to thick, you probaly did.
