I'm not sure if this is the right spot to post this, but are the wireless optical mouses good for games, for example Q3?
A freind of mine has a logitech wireless optical and there seems to be a lag problem if you move it too fast. Is there a fix for this?

thanx

That's not because it's optical, it's because it's wireless, most likely. Might also be the surface you're playing on, try several different surfaces...

I never tried a wireless optical mouse. But let me tell you that I never had lag problems with my optical Saitek Mouse. I would also say, that it might be the surface, you are playing on.

I think i got it going now. There was an option in the mouse settings "enhance pointer precision". It is much better now :).

Once you've used an optical mouse for gaming you'll never be satisfied with a ball. As far as "lag time" I've had none of it with my Logitech optical. It's really worth the $s.

I'll beg to differ.
Optical and Ball has some to do with how good a mouse is, as does wire or wireless. But more than anything it's the specific mouse.
The *BEST MOUSE* - price aside - is the Razer Boomslang 2000. It's a balled mouse with 2000 DPI sensitivity. I've got one, I love it. The company that makes it has great support too.

The opticals I've tried are, generally, a step above most balled mice.
Wireless stuff is a mixed bag. Cheap ones have high latency and bad signal pick up that would make gaming a royal pain, but are good for - say - a business meeting power point type role. The more expensive ones are less noticable but there will always be problems with signal - same as TV remotes don't always hit the set's reciever.

All in all, though, it's about model and brand. Mice are one of those things that are $2 to $100 and you get what you pay for (or less if you're not carefull)

I have found that optical mice are much better for games than balled mice. But, I also like the Logiteck mouse with the large trackball for gaming. Easy to do a 180 with the large trackball.

1) dont get a wireless, esp. if you are going to a LAN party any time soon.

2) if you do get a wireless, shell out 30 bucks and get a logitech x2 optic. It spases maybe once a day, where the other one I had spazed about 3-4 tiems an hour.

well, can't say I ever tried a wireless mouse, but I have been able to use a good optical, and I found it an extremely pleasent experience! But since at home I hardly play anything harder than quake, i doubt i need to worry about such things! =)

I have a logitech corded optical mouse, and if i plug it into a usb port then it freezes when i play max payne, and if i exit the game its still frozen in windows. I have to use that ps2 adapter it comes with, but it always falls out. This is so inconvenient.

Have you tried updating the drivers? There is a new one at windows update. Or with Mouseware.

I have a Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer, and it is the best mouse I have EVER used. The only thing bad is the $78 price tag!!!

I have the newest drivers, it still does it for some reason. Well I beat max payne anyways, and when my friend wanted to come over to play it i told him to bring his own mouse.
