This MMO is dead, as is Warhammer online going by all the free stuff they are giving away to get people to play. :screwy::screwy::screwy:

Funcom has launched a 're-avaluation phase' of Age of Conan, during which you can play for free, earn double the normal XP, and -- if you subscribe -- get a guaranteed beta spot in The Secret World.

The re-evaluation phase lasts for 2 weeks, during which all XP earned will be double the norm. If you decide to continue playing beyond the free period and you subscribe, you can get additional goodies, such as guaranteed access to the beta test for The Secret World, and/or a free copy of the Age of Conan expansion Rise of the Godslayer. The longer you subscribe, the more rewards you'll reap.

If you choose to continue subscribing to the game after the free period, you can get the following exclusive rewards:

* Subscribing for 1 month gives 7 days extra game time for no additional cost
* Subscribing for 3 months also guarantees a spot in open beta for The Secret World (date for access TBA)
* Subscribing for 6 months also gives a level 40 helmet with a +10% XP modifier
* Subscribing for 12 months also gives a free copy of the Rise of the Godslayer expansion when it becomes available

Age of Conan active subscribers are estimated to currently be under the 100k mark.

:sn:

There is a an expansion coming out next year, but using past estimates , most expansions only sell to 20-30% of the existing player base. Maybe that's different for MMOs? Dunno...

I remember reading up on The Secret World, and was pretty impressed by what I was reading. Then I got to the part where it said it was being made by Funcom, and all interest kind of dropped through the floor.

actually look at dungeons and dragons online now. After turbine went free to play and just put in a cash shop and sub's for people who want them, kotaku reported that their game is booming now they've had more business then ever and i guess the game is doing great now.

So you never know, I think people expect WoW level greatness in order to be great. If you can keep your little niche community and keep them paying and happy and playing well then you got yourself a steady check! lol

I don't think not living up to wow is the problem with a lot of these games. I think the problem is lack of middle/high end content. I know lots of people that thought the beginning of age of conan was terrific, but then they got to the later levels and found there there were little to no quests or content. Its almost like they develop the begging to hook you in but don't finish the rest of the game. if they odculd have kept up the content quality they probably would have done fine.
