I have had my Buffalo WHR-G54S router for the last 4-5 years. It has always been very reliable. In the last few months it has began to act a bit strange. At first I would lose the wired connection, but the laptops running on the wireless never lost any connection. I would reboot the router and everything would work for a few days, then it would happen again. after about 1-2 weeks of that, the router began to lock up and both wired and wireless lost connection. I would reboot it and it would work again. Then it began locking up every 5-10 minutes.
I took a few steps to try and correct it:
1. Flashed the firmware with the latest Buffalo version - Fixed teh issue for about 2-3 days then the random lock-ups began again..
2. Flashed the firmware with Tomato - Worked for about a week then the random lock-ups began again.
3. Finally flashed it with DD-WRT - This worked perfect ,the issue was gone. Then after about 3 weeks, it began the random lockups.
It is still running DD-WRT. It worked perfect the last few days. Today, it locked up. I rebooted it. IT worked for about 5 minutes, then locked up again. Rebooted a second time. It locked up after 10 minutes. Rebooted a 3rd time. IT stayed up and has been running correctly for the last few hours on the wired connection, but the wireless signal has been going on and off at random. Should I start looking to replace it or is there something else I can look into. The lock-ups happen at very random intervals, sometimes all day long then other times not at all.
