Is there a version of linux specially made for getting full speed out of a PC for folding? I picked up a few Migrus mini-itx workstations that I would like to use just for folding.

There is ubuntu but I'm guessing you're looking for more speed than that.
This link (http://www.linuxfortravelers.com/how-to-install-linux-on-a-bootable-usb-thumb-drive) <Takes a bit to load don't know why maybe its just RR being a ******* **** ***** ***

NotFred has a usb folding client available here (http://reilly.homeip.net/folding/usb.html).
its basically a cut down linux image that goes straight into folding.

+1 if you are wanting to use flash thumb drive Notfreds is the easiest way to go
Well, I found that Ubuntu gave me the best performance. I even had an optimized gentoo build, but the performance was only like 1% more, plus the GPU performance was 20% worse.

Exactly what I was looking for, thank you. Sorry I didn't poke around before asking. I just knew everybody here would give me a quick answer.:salute:

I think I will have to make one up for myself. Can't seem to get these to work on these little crap PCs... :(

They see the USB stick as a harddrive, but just won't boot from it using this image. Does work when I make up a Win XP thumbdrive. Don't undestand why this doesn't work :(:cry:

It shows more than one. I may just end up making an unbuntu drive.

:clap::clap::clap:Well I think I figured it out! There was a setting in the BIOS for using LEGACY USB devices. Once I enabled that it was able to boot off anything USB .. WOOOOHOOOO!!!:clap::clap::clap:

My 9800GTX+ is pulling like 7KPPD so maybe 20 or so of them would do .... Hmmmmm..... Wonder what my power bill would look like if I ran that many ??

4 i7s with a decent OC on bigadv should do the trick... pop a GTX200 grade GPU in each for good measure. :)
