HDD/CD blinking???

i have my hard drive connected with my CD writer on the same ide cable and was wondering if it was normal when i shut down the computer ('it is now safe to turn off comp') that the green light on the cd drive blinks? i have them on the same cable because there's a lot of clutter inside my comp (not to mention is a mid tower). thanks. i'm also in the process of rounding my ide cables.

doesnt' your machine just power off when you shutdown? stops blinking when you hit the button correct?
