Not necessarily. There are relatively few people that can afford or are capable of extreme cooling. There are also always those that will push the voltage without it (though on i7's, it seems temps help out more than C2D/C2Q, where you could just throw volts to them). In the last two FW's, my poor old E8400 saw 1.7v...on air for one and water for the other. Got 5GHz without extreme cooling. :)

Yeah, 1.6v and 1.6v+ vtt/pll went through my quad on water...I know the feeling (this is my daily beater BTW). Im still in though, hopefully I will get some cold arse days and break this 523Mhz FSB wall I slammed into last time!

Not all the time. Our A Team last warz (3- 920's on Water and Air) took top spot (beating out 3 - 975's on Phase) Anything is possible :D The OC bonus helped us tremendously for that win. I'm sure LN2 would have squashed us though. It will be slightly unfair, but more and more people are moving into Extreme Cooling these days. Limiting it to 1 class, might be a little too exclusive. 50/50 wouldn't be a bad idea though.

Yes, that's correct, they're not in a class by themselves. FWIW, dualies make up against C2Q's at least with their better potential for higher clocks (meaning better SP scores).

Yes, as i7's are capable of 8 threads, they will fall into those categories. As far as Nehalem goes, only i5's will work in the quad-core categories.

I'm guessing an HT disabled i7 puts you in the 4 thread class. Most likely why they stated it in threads, and not chip or socket specific.

Edit: Well scratch that then... as hokie addressed this. @hokie... if that is the case, you might want to change the spec's to (8 thread capable) as to not be confusing.

Edit2: Congrats on turning blue Hokie... I must have missed it. It's well deserved though!

It has always been the capability of the chip. You can disable cores of C2Q & C2D in BIOS so they run fewer than normal cores, but a quad wouldn't ever be allowed in a dualie category. Same with the i7 & HT. I'll ask Ray about adding the clarification.

Oh I want tons of new hardware. Just don't want to get stuff now that might not be as useful in 3.5 months. Can plan better on when to spend the money and on what.

Now that I got 2 new widescreen monitors (was using a single old 17" crt at 1280x1024) I have a good "excuse" to give the fiance on why the new hardware keeps showing up, instead of it just showing up.

I must admit though, I have grown quiet fond of this 3110.

Dolk: Any hardware available to the general public is allowed. It's six cores, but am I correct that it does not have HT? If so, I'd place it in the greater-than-four-threads classes, even if it can't handle eight.

Speaking of, I spoke with Ray and a clarification has been added to the rules:
*** 8-threaded means the CPU is capable of running 8-threads. If you choose to run it as a 4-threaded processor for higher clocks, that's up to you, but it is not eligible for the 4-threaded classes.

Because the OC bonus on the TWKR makes it insurmountable. 2ghz to 6ghz = 400000 just for the bonus.

Plus the TWKR is not available to the general public. Yes, they're hand-picked Phenom II's, but those don't start @ 2GHz. The OC bonus skewed the results of the last FW's somewhat. That does NOTHING to de-ligitimize the winners of the last forum wars, as they were allowed; please don't think I'm trying to belittle any team at all, as that is not the intent. It's just not something we wish to repeat. Sorry gents.

Same price from an individual, yes. However, you can't go to Newegg (or any other retailer) and purchase a TWKR. You can go to Newegg and several other retailers to buy an extreme Intel chip.

No Gulftown this go-round. ES chips may only be used if their architecture has been released to the public. They and TWKR both can be run in the slacker class (i.e. no points toward team totals) for fun, but not for scoring.

I like running 05, which will help offset how much I dislike Geekbench. lol Looks like dual-cores (clocked high enough) still have a chance with this selection.

If Gulftown is released to the general public prior to the beginning of stock scoring, then I'll bring it up in the Judges' Chambers. Since it's a rule "Gulftown will not be allowed", it will need to be approved via vote. If anyone sees these available to anyone that wishes to purchase them, please PM me with a link and I'll then bring it up in the chambers. I'd not recommend running out and purchasing one just for FW competition prior to hearing the decision.

Of course, if you wanted to buy one and bench it (or have an ES), you're more than welcome to use it in the Slacker Class (no contribution to team scores). We'd all love to see one put through its paces. :)

Okay... I am a little confused. Going by my understanding of the scoring I have your Total Score at: 221,363

Thanks for posting the calc, that should clear stuff up a bit.

The bonus is independent of any benches. It's just that - a bonus. It is based off of your SuperPi1M overclock value. The scores themselves for all benches equate to a point value.

Wrong forum. But yes, they do work. They are no where near as optimized as NVidia cards are however. Expect about 2k ppd from a 3850, 4k from a top end ATI card. They are working on they next code base which should open things up for the ATI cards. No expected date of delivery for the next GPU core however.

Hey guys,

Please note:

Geekbench, 3D03 and 3D05 must be posted with working links, not screenshots.

3D03 and 3D05 = working ORB links, and it's best to edit in your name as well.

Geekbench needs a working link as well, please make sure you have an account there and sign in so your link has your name in it (it's free and easy to do)

Also, your SPI and wPrime screenshots also need the date stamp.

If you're not sure please ask.

Another thing to look out for.

Turbo on (added multi) is Not your stock cpu speed. Make sure you have that off.

Also, your name and forum should be in the ORB links.

And you need to be loged into you account at Geekbench to make sure your name is in the link. It must be there.

didnt realise you could even get a geekbench accont. Ill try and re do it in time. very busy from now til 21st.

You just go to there site and sign up, really easy.
This way we know the score is from the member.

Crazy as it sounds, some bankers (with a "w") rip off others scores.
So we have to have names in all the links.

It's a sad world we live in at times.

If you don't have time, I have a way round it for you.

If we have to, I'll post that one score of yours with a zero (keeps everyone happy)
As you will be posting overclocked scores anyhow, won't really matter.
