First off, some Mobos made for dual AMDs can accept either the XP or the MP. The only differance between the 2 procs, is that the MB has been tested for dual proc usage. While the XP was never tested or meant for it. But some boards can accept 2 XPs and run them perfectly, while some might not work at all. Best bet is to get the MPs since they are assured to work in a dual proc situation. The XP setup is iffy, you take a chance, so my advice is to buy the dual board with 2 MPs or a regular board with an XP. My advice, stick with the XP, dual procs aren't as widely accepted, you will only see performance boosts where the program can utilize that 2nd CPU, if you are trying to get more benchmarks from Quake with 2 procs, not gonna happen, Quake can't utilize a 2nd proc... yet. Only a few can, and those are the mass data crunchers...
Aight, I'm out.

Wrong Wrong Wrong.
First "all Socket A " Processors will work In a dual system.
Second QUAKE AND WOLFSTEIN ARE DUAL THREADED AND BENIFIT FROM DUAL SYSTEMS.THE ONLY DUAL THREADED GAMES IN TODAYS WORLD.
Did any one know WINDOWS IS DUAL THREADED XP,2K
Did you know a dual system always shares the processing between BOOTH PROCESSORS .If you ever get a chance start a game on a dual and BOOTH PROCESSORS SHARE THE TASKS AS EVENLY AS POSSIBLE.OPEN 3 SINGLE THREADED PROGRAMS ON A DUAL AND THE SINGLE THREADED APPS ARE DISTRIBUTED BETWEEN BOOTH PROCESSORS.This is called SMP.Symetrical Multi Processing.
So why is it slower in fps than a single.Because of the sharing of info between 2 processors. But try this run some video encoding and play quake. This can be done on a dual.TRY THAT ON A SINGLE and you will lock it or never get into the game.
[b]While your points are good, don't be so rude about correcting people. Don't attack them, either.

you are partly right, your tyan will run all socket processors but the newer 760mpx boards will only run both cpu's if they are either morgan's,xp's,or mp's. IMO I would go xp's because mp's are atleast $50 more and even if you got one that didn't want to do smp you could always get another for what you would have payed for mp's. Not likely that you would get 2 that wouldn't work.

How much faster will Windows load on a dual cpu system?

The MPX chipset (which is mostly dead) will lock you into the BIOS if there is anything but MP's in there. The MP chipset will allow you to install Morgans and XP's but it has a hard time with standard Athlons. For gaming and minor apps like you mention I do not think that a dual setup is worth the expense. I would just get a killer XP machine and enjoy the O/Cin'.

mpx boards are just now coming out you must be thinking of mp
Maby a site dedicated to duals that has a faq on this topic would be helpfull.
I know everyone has an opinion but here are the facts.Lastly look at the changes in the 2 chipsets very minor. And nothing done within the chipset to disallow any processors.Unless some of you think a T-Bird is incapable being dualed up.
http://forums.2cpu.com/showthread.php?threadid=9916of
Read it and it does mention all the Motherboards currently Available in the MP chipset and the MPX chipset.

Read it and it does mention all the Motherboards currently Available in the MP chipset and the MPX chipset. There had been rumors floating on the web as to whether these new AMD MPX chipset based boards disallowed the usage of two XP CPUs and would only work with MP CPUs. We can tell you that these were just rumors. We tested the board with a pair of XP 1600 as well as XP 1800 CPUs and both of them had no problems running under dual mode. However, the older Athlon Thunderbird CPUs don't work in multi-processor mode. http://www.tbreak.com/hard/mobo/msi_dualamd/page4.html
Sick boy are you stalking me ?
I posted a link that give information on duals. How is that looking for trouble ?Is this not a forum,A place to post opinions ?And offer info or help.
What is it with you I got several PM's from you calling me names swearing at me and generelly being nasty because i posted a different opinion than you.Get OVER it.............
If you have a problem with me sickboy please keep it to your self. And stop your trolling

Please gentlemen.
Duallies are worth it, IMO: multitask better whether the app is multi-threaded or not.
I am going to be building a new duallie soon myself, and MAY go with AMD since both duallies I have now are Intel, not sure yet.
If I do go AMD I plan on getting MPs- there is a chance of XPs not working, although most have had no problems: some mobos are more friendly from what I've read and some are not: check before you buy!
Duallies rock: I have two of them. My fastest AMD rig is an XP 1800(1.533@1.670) and my PIII-1000 dual is faster when I have any two programs running.
Sorry guys, I know its an AMD thread, but this illustrates the advantages of a duallie better than anything else I know of!

The MSI version of the MPX was cancelled, Asus got the worst rating of any board in the past 2 years, and Abit's didn't even hit market. Until they get the major bugs worked out, it will be dead in 6 months. Just watch.

I think he was referring to your other post.
Private messages should stay that way. If you have problems with them, let a mod know via email or PM, don't post about it.

it was postponed. qbitpc.com is the only place that has them right now.

That should tell you something. I tried the Asus model at my store and I was unable to get to be stable. I think Asus makes a fine board, but this chipset just plain bites. I will never carry it in my shop. I still think AMD should leave this dualie thing to Intel.

I would like to get one just for folding. Intel just don't fold good might as well have a single t bird or xp just as fast as dual intel for folding
Well, I don't know how they could give Asus' MPX such terrible ratings as I absolutely love mine. Like it so much I bought another that will be in tomorrow. Has been rock stable and is the fastest board I've owned by far. Only problem I've had at all was a SBLive bug but that's evident in about any board with a VIA chipsets.
Runs perfect with two XP 1600s and dual Morgan Duron 1GHz (which came in today).
Also, for the record, I do have two 1.4GHz Thunderbirds that DO NOT work in SMP on this board. Thought I would try it after all the fuss I've seen in here on the subject. If they do on someone else's board...good for them.
