ALL Intel chips from the P2 233 are locked.

Vinny, the multiplier is locked on your P-4, you need to get a good overclocking friendly motherboard that has adjustable FSB and voltage settings. Move the P-4 to a good motherboard (like Abit or Asus for example) and then you can overclock.

IM getting a ASUS P4T-E is that good for overclocking? IF thats not good what do you suggest?

The P4T-E has shown to be a really great OCer. Make sure you have good RIMMs to handle the overclocked FSB, Samsung is usually a good brand. G'luck, with the specs in your sig that you have listed, I think you'll have a good overclock.

Those Asus motherboards are good and will overclock too. One thing I need to caution you with though, there are two types of 1.5 gig P-4 CPUs, socket 423 and socket 478. The Asus P4T-E is for the socket 478 type and the Asus P4T is for the socket 423 type. They will not interchange, so make sure you order the correct motherboard. Here is a link for mwave.com that sell motherboards for a little cheaper. I've ordered stuff from them more than once and have no complaints. You might look at the Abit boards too, they're known to be good overclockers and very stable.

I'm not up on the design of the HP PC's, but will an aftermarket mobo mount in the case?

Or is a new case included in the rebuild plans?

OK, i think i have it down, my intel is a 423, and i need rdram

this is the list
mobo= http://direct.mwave.com/mwave/doc/p4t.html
this mobo can be O/C right?
chip = intel 423 1.5ghz
vid= geforce3-4 or 8500, 3 weeks will tell :)
sound = 5.1 live, with 5.1 cambrige
AquaStealth II Kit
256 rdram running at 600mhz (might upgrade this later)
and some kind of 400w case

OK, everythiing sound good?

Anyone know of any CHEAP 400w case (need lots of room inside)
I'm going to work on making my own cooling system when im not such a newbie (for now i cheat) :)

thank you very much for you help, saved my butt

No, you DEFINITELY need 800MHz RDRAM. The 600MHz stuff was designed for the Intel 820 chipset for the Pentium 3. The P4's all use RDRAM. I'd definitely get the 800MHz stuff, especially if you're getting 256MB of it. You'll upgrade later and you'll have 256MB of useless RAM, as the newer 800MHz stuff will be limited to the 600MHz speed.

the 256 came with my gift comp. so that sucks but oh well'. I'm just going to get 2 sticks of 800mhz rdram off ebay later this month. only like 80 bucks.

so then everything is OK, i can overclock once i get this stuff in? Also know any good 400w cases?

I'm running 2 P4 chips both are 423 pin. I perfer the ASUS and ABIT boards. Models are P4T and TH7II respectively. Also Along with the above mentioned go for PC800 Samsung RDRAM.
