Ok i got win 2kpro and i had no problems networking but then i got a BSOD when i was booting up and i had to reformat. So i installed Win2k pro again and all the drivers for my parts. But here is the deal now, when i rightclick on my computer, then go to network, the network id thing is grayed out. I have tcp/ip installed and i do ipconfig in ms dos and i get an ip address so i guess it works. I also share an internet connection with my bro and that works, and we can ping each other. So i guess its not a hardware problem. Im using a Dlink 530tx+. I dont know what im doing wrong, i tried all the drivers from win95 to winnt and it doesnt work!. Basically what im trying to do is set up the network id so i could share files not only the net access. I have no idea what else to do, i need help!!. I would appreciat any help what so ever, what ever u think of that might be the problem, just post it please!!. I apreciate any help.

Check the protocols, etc: right-click on My Network Places, proerties, and the lan connection: you'll get a list of what networking stuff is installed. all you need is TCP/IP, Client for Microsoft and File and Printer sharing (some older games want IPX/SPX.)
If you have all those, take a look in TCP/IP properties.
Are you using DHCP? If static IP then subnets have to match, and IP address has to match, except for the last octet: they can't be the same. If all that looks ok, you may need to remove all the protocols/clients and reinstall them.
Midnight here, and I'm up for a little while yet...

if you are using DHCP( the little check box that says automatically obtain an IP address) then the network ID section (IP address section) WILL be grayed out.
