I have my optic mouse plugged into a PS2 extension cable and was wondering if I will a substantial increase in my gaming or with regular every day use with the optic going into USB? Will it just perform better?
I ask cause I have to go exchange something tomorrow and they have the extension (Belkin none gold plated) I was looking at. The cable is about $10-14 bucks... what would you guys do?

i keep mine pluged into the PS/2 port....
And why would you want to put an extention on the mouse cord?
I would think thta would hurt you more than do good. Longer cable = more distortion of the signal.
Also why OS are you using? Win 9x has a terible defualt mouse refresh rate and should be changed. If you are using 2K/XP the default should be fine

I have an extension on there because of space under my desk (no room to put the PC) and the length needed to get to the back of the pc to plug em in. I just have not had to time to break down the machine and drill holes in the desk yet...
After tonight I will be running on XP so what you mentioned about the refresh rate should be fixed for me. Thanks for replying.
some of the newer optical mice have much better cameras on them and they reccomend that you plug it into the usb port so you get the max resoultion on the cameras on the mouse because the ps/2 port doesnt have a high transfer rate.
i have a mouseman dual optical and i can tell the difference in performance between the ps/2 and the usb connections
According to MaximumPC magazine, a standard PS/2 mouse updates its position 40 times per second, USB mice update 125 times per second. Seems as if the USB is the way to go.
