i have an 80w pelt laying around and thought this might be a good thing to put on my chip set. is this pelt to powerful for air cooling? is it to much for an overclocked chipset? it seemed like it would cool better then that crapy fant thats on there now. what do you think all knowing people of the overclocking community?:D

An 80 watt pelt would need a good size hsf, maybe too big to fit on the chipset's area. However, with the heat output from the northbridge being so much lower than a cpu, you just might get away with a decent smaller hsf. You could also fiddle with the voltage to keep it's power draw and heat output low.

I'd say if you have a good hsf that'll fit in that area, go for it. Just make sure your case cooling can keep up with the load, cause you don't want it to add too much heat to the case and bumping up the cpu's temp.

*edit* protect the front and backside of the mobo from condensation, cause the chip sits tight against it and will frost over on the backside too.

ya i have 2 chips cooled with 172 watt pelts but that's not a problem. im just trying get a feel for how much cooling this 80w pelt puts out. just curious what hsf could be powerful enough to cool this pelt?

To cool that on air you would need a MCX462 with a 80CFM Delta if it were running at max voltage. I believe that donny_paycheck is still running one of his XPs that way.

do you think that this pelt will work on my regular power supply or will it be to much of a drain. i have a hdd, 2cd roms, a couple case fans and the mobo overclocked. it's an antec 400w power supply. what do you think?

Something like a PEP 66 will handle the pelt and the heat from your Northbridge. I would not mess with it unless your motherboard is FSB challanged as with the KT7 series.

does this pelt cool that much or does it just take alot of air to cool it. im just trying to get a feel for this thing. it's just sitting around and i thought i would try and find a place for it.:cool:

go for any large heatsink, preferably with a copper insert that covers all the peltier

I really can't say, no experience, but you could check how many Amps your 12V rail has left with everything connected. Would it be possibe to control the volteage to the peltier? It might not be a bad idea to be able to "fine tune" its cooling capacity & probably enable you to use a smaller HSF to cool it if it wasnt going at max capacity. Maybe even water cool it;
