Ok the other day I was at the local computer shop. I went to get a PSU for my rig when I came across a AOpen GeForce 2 Ti for $120. Is this a good buy how good are the AOpen video cards. Right now I have a 4m.b SiS video card. So I'm looking towards a upgrade.

Well guys and gals I guess we'll find out. If not oh well cause she needs a better video card anyways. So far tho I've yet to see a GeForce2 MX400 with DDR memory. TonightI came across a GeFroce 3 Ti200 with 128m.b. DDR for $189.

01-31-02, 01:56 AM
well I'm not the guy to tell you what this is, but something has to be fishy with the specs....

Probably because there aren't *any* GeF4s on pricewatch, and this card costs less than half of the cheapest GeF3 card. I posted a link in cyber deals, but this really seems strange to me.
Caveat emptor.

Need I remind you guys of that GeForce2 Ultra for $95 scam? Do you guys remember that? They had 25 stock, and something like 10,000 people ordered them. BIIIIG nono. Don't buy it, unless you call them and make certain it's a typo, and it was supposed to be a GF2MX400. Because as far as I know, GF4's aren't even out yet, let alone a GF4 MX (MXs come out after the originals).

freddiedaman
01-31-02, 04:17 AM
exactly my point (It really does sound like a GF2MX400 considering the price), wasn't aware of that previos GF2Ultra scam though....another reason to be extra careful then!

Has anyone gotten one of these yet?

Well, the link to that card says "ETA 2-8-02". This is a preorder deal. Who's to say when Buyeee will actualy get the cards in stock. Besides, we don't even know what the street prices will be on these cards, yet.

Kato

it got to be a GeForce2 MX400...G4 isn't out yet, so if Aopen REALLY have this card out, of course they will say something on their website....which i found none.....its just a typo....:D

Doesn't sound like their selling GF4 at all to me either. They may just fake the thing and when you complain they'll just say it was some typo :p

I also think you should remember the gf4 mx 460 is the good one ,the 440 is clocked lower.

It sure isn't there anymore, there's a reference to a GF4MX in the AOpen category, but no actual card at the moment.

In any case, the 440 isn't all that hot: 5ns DDR in the reference design. The 460 will have more like 3.7ns DDR.

Let's find out how well these MX cards do against the GF4 and GF3 Ti200s first, shall we?

Wicked Klown
02-01-02, 04:22 PM
One thing you guys have to remember she`s not a hardcore overclocker. There was a site talking about what the MX440 can do but can't remember where. I do remember tho it was somewhere between the GeForce3 TI200 and the GeForce3 Ti500

Nope it's real guys. I just bought a GeForce2 MX and after I bought it I was told by a friend I should have waited for this new GeForce4 Mx card. Well I looked into it and it is very real. :D

Sounds like beta testing to me, but that's just my opinion. I just prefer to wait until the card/chip has established itself (not that I'd suspect nVidia of messing up the GeF4 like Intel did with the P4 or anything). Not to mention that those cards are quite spendy to replace every six months when a new chip comes out.

----Hey just think I'll be the first to have a GeForce4.

And people will buy you drinks for years based on that. Not.

I would suggest you consider that people judge you by what you are, not by what you buy. You can already see people are less than awed by your purchase. You can't buy esteem for $100; you really can't buy it at all. Nobody except you is going to remember this in a few days, if it even takes that long.

When you buy something to feel good or important, the feeling goes away very, very quickly; it's a drug just as much as cocaine. Unfortunately, marketing hooks many, many people into that habit just to get their money.

There is a preliminary review here:
http://www.tbreak.com/hard/grfx/msi_gf4mx440/page1.html which indicates that the MX440 trails a Ti200, sometimes by quite a bit, in just about everything but Direct3D games.

I have to buy one of these dang things pretty soon myself, and I don't have enough info yet to make a wise decision.

Thanks for the review ED ,one thing I did notice was vivo on this card which is nice, but when I buy one I do want the 460,and I do hope it overclocks very well ;) I like the best bang for the buck ,see my sig.

I don't talk like that to people on my ignore list (much less the site owners).
If you want the card and you know what you're getting, great. It's your money and there's no reason to get all defensive about how you spend it.

Edit: Things seem little off on both sides, now that I've taken a good second look.

I was just defending myself. Because of his statement of buying it for esteem. Now let me ask you something Idea did you see anything wrong with what I said about being the first.

I followed the thread a bit, and I agree with you Klownin79, his comments were rather rude for a "Super" moderator. While offering some good info on the card, the esteem comment and overall sarcasticness of the response was rather uncalled for.

It doesn't matter if he is owner of the site or whatever, there should be a general respect in the forums and that post deserved a response from you!

You being excited about being the first is no different than the 100's of threads by members showing off(bragging) about their 3DMark2K1 scores, damn those get old!

Anyways, just let it go and enjoy your new Geforce 4 card:)

Thank you Scooby. I would be enjoying the card, but it`s not mine nor will I be playing with it. That one is for my lady as for me I'll be sticking with my GeFroce2 MX400.

Goodluck w/ the Geforce4, it will be cool to have one 1st deifintly, there is nothing wrong w/ that i love getting abunch of hardware as soon as its pressed and released and i dont show a damn soul i just have fun w/ it for my own amusement which i'm sure your going to do (i think this card is for your gf though so what is the prob anyhow?) ... anyway good luck w/ it. :D

---I don't talk like that to people on my ignore list.

Obviously not, since you've blocked all communications. :)

---If you want the card and you know what you're getting, great. It's your money and there's no reason to get all defensive about how you spend it.

It's probably the nanny in me, but when I see somebody buying and encouraging others to buy something I find a little dubious, I think I ought to point that out and why I think so.

Per the esteem comments, unfortunately, that observation probably applies to a very big chunk of the human population, certainly not to just that particular person. I've said the same thing in the past on the front page.

---Edit: Things seem little off on both sides, now that I've taken a good second look.

Somebody just referred me to the thread due to the GF4 announcement. I don't know who this person is, so there's nothing behind the scenes here. I sent a private message to clarify matters.

---I followed the thread a bit, and I agree with you Klownin79, his comments were rather rude for a "Super" moderator.

Those were just comments from Ed Stroligo, human being, not Ed Stroligo, Supermoderator or Superman or Super-Designated Voice of God (or whatever a "supermoderator" is supposed to be).

---While offering some good info on the card, the esteem comment and overall sarcasticness of the response was rather uncalled for.

One of these days, I'm going to create another persona, and post a bit here. I'll lay money I'd be suspended within a week.

---It doesn't matter if he is owner of the site or whatever, there should be a general respect in the forums

No, and if that's what this forum has turned into, a place where civility prevents substance, a place where you can't point out that somebody may be wrong on something, this forum has gone wrong.

---that post deserved a response from you!

I have no problem with that, though I might make the general observation that people don't "have" to defend themselves and shouldn't if they happen to be wrong on something. Just fix it and move on.

Save defending yourself for when you're right (and if this particular person thinks he is, so be it).

---You being excited about being the first is no different than the 100's of threads by members showing off(bragging) about their 3DMark2K1 scores, damn those get old!

Precisely, that was part of my point.

Wicked Klown
02-03-02, 06:22 AM
Ok just to clarify things. I was not trying to encourage anyone to buy a GeForce4. Also what you said about pointing out when someones wrong. Where was I wrong? Lastly the reason I was defending myself was because I didn't feel I was wrong and I still don't think I was wrong.

Ok I know im new here, but you guys sound like a bunch of kids. It`s very sad to see this kind of behaviour here because it`s a place where we help each other. I`ll more that likely get in sh1t for saying this but in my opinion arguing on the internet is like winning in the special olympics, even if you win your still retarded. I don`t see why ppl argu online makes no sense. just my 1 cent worth because I can`t afford 2 cents. :D
