i had a hdd enclosure and accidently kicked it, hdd started smoking and is dead.

i took out the hdd and put in a spare i had. it was acting funny telling me that rar files are corrupt when extracting and then rebooting the enclosure would make the files that were corrupt not corrupted anymore but then others ended up being corrupt. weird.

so i put it inside the pc and ran hdtune, the smart table looks all messed up, i also ran hdd regenerator and it didn't find and bad blocks.

i'm thinking that the enclosure might have messed with the drives smart table.

Is it possible to have the drive check itself, maybe have the read errors reset and have it rescan the sectors it marked bad?

Thanks

http://hddscan.com/ is free and will run SMART tests for you.

SMART is not a reliable way to predict drive failure, however.

Have you tried connecting the drive directly to a computer?

this is what i get with hdtunehttp://img46.imageshack.us/img46/7238/drive.jpg

drive seems to be physically ok, just think that the smart table is messed up.
