View Full Version : Is 8 gigs too much RAM for an OC-ed i5-750?

This is my first post here!

I'm running Win7 on an ASUS P7P55D, i5-750, with 4 gigs of Muskin 996679.

A Muskin sales engineer warned me that if I add 4 more gigs of memory (so I have 8 gigs total) that overclocking will probably be unstable, putting too much stress on the CPU.

I'm not experienced in OC-ing, and am not planning to be. But I would like to OC this machine using ASUS's automated tools. I'd like to know if anyone here can help me understand the sales engineer's statement?

If 8 gigs does cause OC problems, I'm debating whether OC-ing with 4 gigs would be better than stock speed with 4 gigs. I never see my memory usage go above 3 gigs (although I don't know if Window's uses the other memory for disk cache or something -- which I probably don't need since I'm running an Intel G2 180gig SSD...)

Thanks!

Tom
