I have been given an old laptop which I am unsure of the make but I believe it to be Aztech. The problem is it has a boot password set and therefore I can't start up the system. What I wanted to know is how do you clear this password. Would removing the CMOS battery do it, and where would I find the CMOS battery. Thanks for your help.

some laptops (IBM"s amyways) wont lose a password when the battry is removed or the CMOS cleared.....
Pop opem the bottem and looking for the battry is your best bet.

But you might have to contact the manufacturer and get a special piece of software to clear the password. Its a security feature against stole laptops. they will look up the ID numbers and such to make sure its not stolen...

problem is that this laptop is a 486 33mhz, 4mb ram and made by Aztech who I have never heard of before. I think I will just put it on eBay and see what i get for it.

It still might be worth your while to open it up to try to find the clear cmos jumper though. If nothing else, you could pots some pics of it's guts.;)

I found the CMOS battery and shorted it but the password remained. I couldn't find a jumper but I couldn't get the whole lid off without the use of a hammer. I would post pics but I don't have a camera, I am looking for a reasonable camera for under £100 if anyone is selling one.
