I have been looking around Jab-Tech quite a bit over the last few days, since I am still trying to decide what color of Primochill tubing I want to go with in my loop. I was checking out fittings, when I noticed THESE (http://www.jab-tech.com/Bitspower-True-Silver-G1-4-High-Flow-1-2-Barb-BP-SLWP-C01-pr-4397.html). I was just curious as to how well these would work, compared to making a couple of kill coils out of the silver strip, found HERE (http://www.jab-tech.com/Antimicrobial-Silver-Strip-pr-4530.html). The silver strip looks to be OOS, but I am sure if I really wanted to look, I could find something local as well. I was guessing, if I got the 12" strip, that I could most likely make a couple of coils out of it. How much silver would I really need? Are the plated barbs really going to help out that much?

they kill algae... it works, you don't have to put in anything conductive in your water anymore, put on coloured hoses and you can use plain distilled water...

Nice how many of them do you need in a loop?

I remember someone saying on XS 4 fittings. It's not as pure as a killcoil. Or the stuff jabtech sells. But I dunno. I think it's a gimmik myself. PHN Nuke bottle lasts forever, you only need a few drops per loop until you drain etc every 6 months. I run PHN and a kill coil in each loop.

I'd just use all of them silver for good measure, they're not that much more expensive (about twice?) compared to the standard chrome plated ones.. (but thats just me..)

I was thinking about replacing all of the barbs with these, which would come out to a total of 8, until I can afford to replace the pump head on my D5. I have been reading a little bit on other forums, mostly from following links, about people running straight distilled, with one or two silver kill coils and no other additives, and no growth or problems. I started thinking it would be easier to swap these barbs in, than to put silver kill coils into the tubing.

i run 2 of the True silver 7/16" compression fittings and pt nuke and haven't had any issues for 4-5 months now.
2 would be the minimum IMO. i tried asking and was told it will be fine. since i have far to much pt nuke i use both.

From the reading I have done on another forum (it might have been XS, but don't remember for sure), I remember something about maximizing the surface area, and a lot of them were running straight distilled with kill coils in the their tubing. When I came across these fittings, I thought it might be good to use these instead of trying to make a kill coil that looks right.

The kill coil is coiled up and very easy to bend. Once you see how easy it is to put in the end of a tube and then push the barb on, you'll wish you came up with it. It's that easy. You just make it so it touches the side of the tubing and slide it in, it doesn't move our GPM flow is very low and it won't move around.
It's a LOT cheaper than all those fittings for sure too.
