I just sold my TT, upgraded it to the works package and it became undriveable. Trying out some other cars now.

First whack at hte game I went with my trusty Mazda RX series... but hte RW drive just caused to much fishtailing by the end of tier one. Switched the the Audio wagon, great car but not enough power. Finally switched to the TT, and after developing some "touch" with the car I am almost finished Tier2 again (just have the country challenges to go through now)

Might rebuild another TT or play around with another car.. not sure yet

my favourite car is the Evo. it's very easy to handle. turns much better than the TT or STi...
and i bought an R34 last night, which is pretty good (sounds so cool :santa:)
but doesn't handle as well as the Evo when you install some power upgrades.

How can you keep playing this game?! I got sooooooo bored of it. So much that i can't even explain how boring it got. Its just the same thing over and over again. Not even a free roam sort of thingy. :P haha, guess its just me...

LOL man, Xiang came over today yeah, and we did this race in the Endurance section (think it was tier 3 or 4) and it was 30 laps.
it was the course with the 8 shape. it's like the Durby course in GRID.
and everytime we got to the intersection there was a huge pile up.
best race ever :santa:

get in the game man. it's so much fun. i just found out the ceramic brakes actually turn orange when you go fast enough/brake hard enough and often.
and you can see the brakes turn back to normal.
it's pretty crazy.

I dont do facebook. Its so easy to get money on NFS Shift. The current 1.02 update has changed how certain cars behave & also the wheel well gap, my R35 with the works package looks like its on stock suspension & bounces like it was on them. its grip is less which is nice but that damn bounce is so bad that the car is a lot more difficult to bang on the curbs. The developers are really off with the feel now, more realistic doesnt always equal difficult to drive because the car bounces around.

when's it arriving?
the gaming experience is far cooler than say Forza or something, even if it's slightly less realistic. although i haven't played Forza 3, i can say Shift is really fun for sure

Sonny, i haven't really felt a difference in my cars. i didn't know they updated the car's handling with the patch. i don't hve the R35 though...i thought it handled like crap when i drove it as a stock car in one of those M3 vs R35 head-to-head races.

Ugh, I can't wait to play this on my G27 :(This game will probably not give you one of the better chances to feel what a G25/7 can do. Too many issues with centering & deadspot of the controls. rFactor, LFS or even the old but still awesome F1 Challenge 99-02 would be a truer representation of the wheels potential.

 serious?!
i might have to try the car out again.
i only have ABS and traction enabled, the brake and turning assist is turned off (i just coudln't stand it)

maybe it didn't drive well as a stock car, compared to my Evo and STi (modified)
i reckon the Evo handles the best, but it ins't as fast as the R35.
STi has too much understeer and can't steer as fast.
and the R34 handles pretty slick as well - bought one yesterday.

oh and the 370Z handles like sheeet. even with max brake/tyre/weight packages and near-stock engine upgrades it still turned like crap. eww

Alittle off topic, but I just finished GRID, and loved it. Would I enjoy Shift??

I really like how Gran Turismo has the campaign mode, which GRID sort of had, but there were no vehicle upgrades. Does Shift allow this and have a more buy cars, enter races, win, upgrade, etc etc??

yeap ther'es customisation
but not as much as say...the older titles such as Underground 2 where you can pick from hundreds of body kit pieces.
it's all in packages now.
you can paint your car, change wheels, add bodykits, performance/handling upgrades etc.
and also vinyls if you like them.
the best bit is how the interior changes when you purchase handling/performance upgrades.
you'll see an extra turbo gauge, buckets seats and/or momo steering wheel installed. it's pretty cool.

i reckon the driving is way more immersive than GRID. GRID's gameplay is bland compared to this, both visually and sound-wise.

oh, and did i mention, if you crash REAL hard, it's like somebody just stun-grenaded you. your screen just blurs out and you can hear your heart beating pretty fast :p

The R35 lets you concentrate on winning the challenges because its very predictable to drive & has alot of power. You can just drive & not worry about power, unpredeictable handling issues, etc. You get repeatable results with the car which is good for racing. About how realistic it is I can't tell, havent driven a R35 in anger in real life.

The Evo IX/X I don't enjoy driving, the brakes seem to fade a lot specialy when your left foot braking to help transfer the weight but have not driven them with the 1.02 patch yet. The Impreza I like because it has a lot of rotation if you know how to use it & sits on its rear tires when you floor it.

The Nissan Z cars are fun for me, RWD cars that steer with the throttle & have good braking performance.

You should. Just don't expect the many maps/modes as grid. But you can expect more customization of the cars (IE upgrades for performance, not just paint). This is NFS trying to lean towards the sim market, and I think they did a pretty good job.

IF you have a wheel I think this game would rock. But so far I am on the Country races in tier 2 and it SUCKS

Limited to a Challenger or Mustang in the USA races because it will not accept tier1 USA cars. (although it says teir1-2 cars)

And the handling is getting ridiculous you MUST have a controlelr that accepts partial pushes of hte button. IE a regular game pad button will not work because it is either all on or all off. The second STICK does not work as a throttle/brake because than you cant use nitrous unless you have a PS style controller with 4 trigger buttons. (Hmm actually I do have a PSX to USB adapter....)

I have stopped playing this game after getting too damned frustrated with it.

There are a lot of problems even when you setup the wheel & pedals properly. I started this game using a Logitech Precision gamepad, no touch sensitive buttons on that one & it was very playable, just have to find the right sensitivity settings like I have mentioned in other NFS Shift threads in this forum.

Well, I used my Logitech rumble pad 2 for GRID, and seemed to work fine. I'm dl'ing the Shift demo now, so will try the same gamepad. As long as I can turn, accelerate, and brake, I should be good.

yeap, i'm using one of those bad controllers you speak of.
you just have to tap the throttle, turning stick like you have severe ADD and you'll be fine.
i can drift fine with my controller now as well. you just gotta get used to it i guess.
but i can never get perfect launches, unless i coincidentally tap it at the moment for the revs to go up.

ey Sonny, the STi just seemed to understeer a lot for me. i dunno if it's because i put too much power on it (i always max out handling upgrades first) or maybe im' not driving right. it doesn't seem as agile as my Evo IX. i haven't treid the Evo X though...
and i guess i'll have to give the R35 another try. i shoudln't make an opinion on the basis of driving it as a stock car. i'll see waht i feel after i put some handling upgrades on it.

Neuromancer

The tuning options are backwards. If you use basic tuning options, selecting oversteer causes understeer

If you use advanced options, the suspension is backwards, softer shocks make a stiffer ride. (That second I can not vouch for, seems with a Camaro no matter what you set you can expect your car to bounce around like a kangaroo on meth at a super ball convention)

Hmm... try driving it with no mods to start with, get used to how the car drives for a few weeks & see how you like it before adding mods or setting it up.

hmm, yeah i just floor it through the corner or if it's a sharp corner, i don't accel through the corner.
it's like i'm trying to power through the corner to make the car turn more, but it just grips too much.
and thinking back, i think my experience with the 370Z wasn't good because i didn't have any power upgrades on it, as you said those cars being RWD , can power through corners.
i might have to give that a try again.

Sonny
12-16-09, 04:32 AM
When you floor it in a corner there is a dynamic weight transfer to the rear. What you need to find out is what the car is doing. Is it understeering because there is no front grip? Why is there no front grip? Have you overloaded the front tires because there is too much weight transfered to them braking into the corner? Are you trying to power it out? If it is a AWD or FWD have you overloaded the front tires by asking it to power & steer thru the corner? When you floor it is there too much weight transfer to the rear that the front tires arent getting enough dynamic or static load for them to grip the tarmac? With RWD cars do you have the same weight transfer issues affecting the front end grip? Is there too much rear end grip that the front end is over powered? Is there enough power to cause oversteer via breaking loose rear traction?
