I've got a PIII 700, and I'm about to buy another one for an smp setup. I heard that both processors need to be of the same stepping for smp to work.. is this true? The one I've already got is a cC0... so if I do need another cC0, any ideas what store(s) will guarantee I'll get the stepping I need?

Hi drowned, welcome to the Forum,
First of all you have to check the S-Specs of your chip, that can be:
Slot1 cC0 with the code SL4M7/SL4CH Boxed version, and SL4CH if OEM version
Fc-Pga cC0 with the code SL4C3 if OEM version
For more info take a look here (http://support.intel.com/support/processors/sspec/p3p.htm), but onestly I don't know where you can found another Cpu like yours ;)
It's best to use the same stepping with dual procs, especially if you're going to overclock them. You're probably in luck, because there were no cD0 P-III 700 steppings made. As long as you buy from a high volume retailer, they will probably be selling the cC0 700 CPUs. Just ask if it says 1.7v default, if so, it's a cC0. I have a good cC0 P-III 700 myself. I've been running it at a rock solid 1050 MHz for months now.
