Basically back on black friday i picked up a WD 640Gig Black for 40 bucks, great deal. I have not much of a need for it but i figure i could run raid with it. I have a 500 gig WD Black (same exact drive, but 140 gigs less).

Will i have any issues if i drop them in Raid 0 together. From my understanding i'll just loose 140 gigs from the 640, and end up with 1TB in Raid 0 (respectively 1TB). If thats the case that i can do it with no issues im gonna go for it as a 140 gig loss is nothing to me(most storage goes to my file server)

Thanks for the info!

You can run them together in RAID 0, but there are other factors than the size. Areal density, drive firmware optimizations, drive geometry(number of platters and heads) and PCBA interface controllers will all impact performance. Generally, performance is best when all factors match, but how much impact differences cause has to be determined by experimentation. If you have data backed up, try several installs and see if the performance is what you want. Stripe sizes will also affect performence. Depending on controller, there may be other settings as well.
