I cannot WAIT for Finals to be over so I can hit up the mountains great this season.
I was borrowing my dads snowboard pants, but its time to purchase my own now...
Any opinions on Quicksilver? Dicks had some generic brand ones for $99, but I figure Quicksilver for an extra $30 should last longer and be much better quality right? I'm definitely a person who would rather pay a little more to get the right gear.
I wanna go a couple times alone so I can really concentrate on some tricks. Gonna pad up my iphone to protect it and get in the zone :)

i ski but i have some burton snowboard pants with removable liners... so amazing. BUT its not all about the brand, look at the linings in the pants, the features n whatnot... im sure there are some "generic brands" that are as good if not better than name brand stuff.
Id get a cheapie mp3 player like an ipod shuffle off ebay for some mobbage rather than busting up an iphone.
I have been itching so hard to get out on my skis... i got a small taste on oct 16th when mammoth opened for the weekend and had free tickets.

I've got a nice quicksilver jacket for snowboarding. It has held up very well so far plus it looks better than just a generic jacket imo. I'd go with their snowpants too.

If it is in a case and a pocket it should be fine. I have an otterbox on mine and it survived me taking it up skiing a few days ago with it in my pocket. I had no troubles using it other then there was no 3G coverage and very slow EDGE. Even when I crashed and got some snow into the pocket it was in, water never crept under the screen and it was still usable after wiping water off of the screeen. As long as you don't do something stupid like leave it on the chair lift seat you should be fine boarding with one. And if you crash make sure it doesn't come flying out of your pocket! :)

ahhh just had a great day at mtn high on my new rossie z6's n new technica boots. Was such a beautiful day. I love being the 10% of skiers there hahaha.
I'm going to Mntn High probably Sat night and then Mon/Tues. I don't think they are open this friday night...Or at least it says they are open after 5pm starting this Saturday.
Night ticket is only $35 compared to $60. If I wanna pay $60 I'll go to Big Bear!
Picked up a nice set of Quicksilver 10k pants...They look great and I got em for 20% off...Yeh they were still expensive, but I think I should consider this a one-time purchase as they look like good quality.
I've not been to Mammoth yet, but those shots look amazing :)

they r open nights every day (west resort only) if im not mistaken as of last fri or the fri before.
As far as ticket prices, if your going to be in town for xmas, grab a six pack. 6 8hr lift tickets for 180 bucks.... = 30 bucks per 8 hr ticket.
Oh that's actually not bad of a deal since its 8 hour tickets. I will definitely use them all.
If they are open on Friday, I'll probably go then because Saturday will be a zoo...

Ya the 6 pack is a great deal, you get 6 pre activated tickets. You can only use one per day (so as not to share them with ur buddies). Once you get all the tickets you wont have to wait in the ticket line again, just show up to the gates and once you pass through the 8 hrs will start and your good to go.
they definitely will be open this Friday from 8am to 10pm. Ill be there with a buncha buddies for sure!
As far as it being a zoo, so long as you stay off upper and lower chisolm on as well as limit your time on the beginner runs at the bottom your good (although it is fun to go play slalom race between on the snowboarders on their asses on the beginner runs). The upper right (conquest) and surrounding expert runs are always fun and rarely have people on them. And if you like taking the high speed lift to the upper left of west, if ya go down the park (borderline, halfpipe, wedge) and take catch ya later past wyatt, all the expert runs as well as the rest of catch ya later are great and rarely have people on them as well.
(all of the above was talking about the west resort) ... the east resort is MUCH less crowded on any given day than east.

^^ That looks like a good area, lots of black diamond runs but I'm puzzled, why do they have bunny slopes at the top of east resort? :eh?:

ya kno i have been puzzled by that as well. I guess its a place you can take someone get them trained up (or a warm up run) then take the intermediate runs to the bottom. East does have a smaller beginner at the bottom, but east caters mainly for intermediate to expert runs without any terrain features and because of that you get less people over there, but also a much more mature population of boarders and skiers, you dont get the crazy boarders who think they own the mountian at east like you get at west. Also east runs are MUCH longer than west, im definitely going to be playing on east more this year once the GF becomes just a lil more confident in herself on skis, although yesterday she felt and looked MUCH MUCH more confident than ever before on a good pair of skis and boots that fit nice.

id suggest a colder wax, even though its going to be "warmer" conditions, the harsh ice conditions take an all purpose or warm weather wax off pretty quick. at least on my skis!
Mr. Roboto

do you wax them yourself?

do you wax them yourself?
heck ya! its super easy, got an clothing iron with no steam holes for 2.95 at a thrift store, works just fine. SCORED on wax today... 180grams of -3*c and below and 150 grams of 0*C n below for 9 bucks out the door (plan on doing about a 50 50 mix of the two, to get some florinated wax on the base but make it harder to withstand icy conditions. And wax scrapers i made out of some free plexi glass from the local plastics shop. Takes me about an hr to do one set of skis but that includes 40min of cool down between waxing and scraping.
I don't own any wax...is it really necessary for a semi-beginner? I can get some grabs and get air and land comfortably...but I'm struggling on my frontside carving a tad (goofy) blehh...I got the balance from skateboarding for 3 years, but turning is whole different ball game that I gotta work on.

really its all what your ust to. If you wanna wax its easy, just did my skis for tomorrow. Its nice to have your own wax because you can wax for different days... Like i used a warm weather wax for tomorrow as its going to get decently slushy ... my skis wont stick nearly as much with the warm weather wax as they would your standard wax they use at a snowboard shop.
Well looks like I am ON for tomorrow night session -- mntn high. I hope its not gonna be too packed although I am expecting it to be since school is out now. I need this ride to relieve all my stress :)
Can't WAIT :D

its gonna be nice... spent 7 hrs straight skiing today at mt high ... 3 hrs at west and 4hrs at east... it was FAR FAR less packed that i would have expected and the east runs were AMAZING.... it was very similar to what it was on tuesday when we went... think how many people can actually make it up mid week... aka not many. And night skiing is never packed.... only the crazies go up at night!
went tonight and it was great...but i fell off a kicker and badly sprained my wrist..grrrrrrrr!!!! cant even move my fingers either. I don't think its broken though but if it gets more painful i should probably get it x-rayed.

Dude get it x-rayed. I fell hard last year on my first trip out. I thought I sprained it. I went snowboarding 2 more times in the next 3 weeks until I realized it wasn't getting better. I finally went to the doc, and it turns out I fractured my wrist in 2 places. I got lucky, the split I bought myself when I fell helped the bone set right, but it can easily go the other way. If you don't go, your bone can begin to set incorrectly, and it will require surgery to correct.

^ what he said.... im sure being that ur a full time student than u got health insurance... a quick trip to an urgent care for an xray is money well spent! You crazy boarders n ur crazy jumps.
I'm going tommorow morning to get it x-rayed. I had to close my store at work tonight and I was cold all the way down the arm so I don't think that's a good sign. I'm completely unable to do anything right now :( I cant lift even 1lbs items without pain.
Fingers crossed...

driving up to brian head, utah tomorrow. did it last year for the 3 days before christmas and it was amazing, lots of snow at night and decent visibility during the day. also there were no lift lines whatsoever so close to the holiday.
Just got back....Broke my radius :(
God damnit just as life was getting back on track.

Eh u can still ride with a cast on!
How long you think it will take before the bone can handle heavy deadlifts again? Is 2 months too optimistic?

It took me almost 7 months from the time I broke it to the time where I felt like I could start pushing myself with weights again. Broken bones are a long recovery. Sorry to hear you broke it, I feel your pain. I broke my right wrist, too, and I'm right handed.
On another note, I'm finally going snowboarding tomorrow, first time this season!

Nice, I have every Tuesday and Friday off this semester (yay for being a senior) so I've been going 2-4 times every week, so I've made good use of my season pass. I lost count after 20 or so times to the mountain haha. I used my phone to make a GPS track the last time I went to Loon, check it out:
http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=501516
It was pretty icy that day though so I didn't do anything crazy. Damn east coast and our constant ice battle.... I really want to head out to the west coast some day.
