View Full Version : could yall take a lookat this
ok I upgraded my monster k6-2 350mhz to a 450mhz...My mobo says its good up to 400mhz...Well when I boot up my pc still reads a 350mhz chip....Can I change that to at least 400mhz. And if I can, then how???:eh?:
You will need to change the multiplier jumpers to make it run at 450. You can look at your motherboard manual for details. What kind of motherboard is it?
Hi Bender ... well u want to know what kind of mother board I have , well so would I...hhhmmmm is thra way Ican go into windows and find that out.....then I could find some info on the net....;)
Check the actual mobo and see if you can see a brand and model number. Look at all the docs that came with your pc.
Once you know the brand and model check the manufacturers wbsite.

Hehe, howdy Pepper!!! I like how my fellow Texan puts "yall" in the Thread subject. :D
I don't have much to add, I just wanted to say hello to a fellow Texan on the boards.

Welcome ot the forums.
If all else fails, examine the board for a "chart" or some such that will show the various settings for the multiplier, nearby you should find a bank of jumpers. Once you've found these items, it should go pretty smoothly for you.
This is not true on all boards but many do have this.
There are also utilities available that can often identify the motherboard as well as other peripherals. SiS Soft Sandra may do this for your board, the other utilities' names escape me at the moment, but they are out there.
I hope this helps.
Good Luck!
hhmm well 6 mounths later here I am again lol, I found out what kind of MB I have (oh ya it's a hotrod)

I had a 350, I droped a 450 in thr (K6 450). My Q is can I over clock this thing, and is thr a direction yall can point me too?
I read the OM , i dont understand a thing...im a noob:eh?:
In the owners manual do you see the section on multiplier or FSB jumpers? If so you can simply try setting your multiplier to 5 instead of 4.5 or you can try the FSB in small increments.
How will i know when to stop raising it? Do I need some kind of program?
You will know when to stop raising the multiplier. Windows and other programs will start to crash. Its a good idea to try something like prime95 to see if your overclock is absolutely stable.
thanz i'll try it and get back wit ya
